I have been back to my GP today to have a proper discussion about me having a gastric band.

He has agreed to write to the PCT and refer me for a band.....:worthy::worthy:

He was extremely understanding and commented that my reasons for wanting WLS were valid. He was impressed with my research of WLS and said I had articulated my case very well and had a clear understanding of the risks involved.

So now I wait! He said if I hadn't heard anything within 6 weeks then I should ring his secretary.

I am so chuffed! I know it's only the first step but at least I haven't fallen at the first hurdle.

In all honesty I don't know! It was far easier than I was expecting.

I just told him that I was concerned about my health now and in the future. He made me tell him everything I knew about WLS and the risks involved - I think it was a bit of a test!

I expressed my concerns about my current health problems and those that are in my family.

I went through my previous attempts at losing weight. He could see from my records that I had been a lot lighter on previous occasions when I had visited the doctors.

The only point he made is that I hadn't tried medication and he thought the PCT might want me to try this first. However his attitude was "let's ask them and see what happens". He also said he didn't think medication would be prescribed as many are prohibited if the patient has high blood pressure, which I do.

I hope this helps. I think the main point was ensuring he knew this wasn't a whim and that I had done my research and had been thinking about WLS for over a year now.
