Lansoprazole

I was taking lansoprazole on a daily basis prior to my surgery for years. I'm now six months post op (sleeve) and had my check up with the surgical team this week. They said I can now stop the lansoprazole and see how I get on.
Was anyone else taking this pre op and has now stopped it? I'd be grateful for any feedback.
I used to take lansoprazole for acid reflux and acidity problems.

Not yet, but hope I will be taken off it at some point. You can always go back on it if your start with the acid again but hopefully that will also have resolved itself. Fingers crossed for you, hunni xxx :)

Thanks for your reply :)
So far so good!

I was on it for years pre op for a chronic cough (omeprazole actually), as a chest specialist was working on the theory that my cough was due to refluxing up acid. Fair enough except when I went for my first consultation with my bariatric surgeon and told him about the cough he asked me if it was possible I had a hiatus hernia. I had never considered it and said I didn't think so, but in fact I did; when he operated he repaired it, so I'm hoping soon to be off that med for good.

I believe sleevers can come off the lanzoprazole, but not bypassers. They need it to prevent acid getting into the intestine, causing ulcers, as there is no pyloric sphincter to keep it in the stomach.

ive had a bypass and been told i will be on it forever wth my multivitamin x

I had a bypass and was told Lanzaprasole only needed to he taken until 3/4 months after surgery.

This is really good to hear! So some bypassers can come off the lanzoprazole/omeprazole altogether! I wonder how they decide who can and who cant?
