Hang on a sec, you're only 2 weeks post op and shouldn't be taking ANYTHING without checking with one of your team first. Your intestines have just been completely rewired and throwing tablets of any size down without proper medical advice first is foolish.

It's not just the risk of the tablet getting stuck, it's to do with the risk of irritation to the intestines and how the laxatives work on the bowels. Most, like senna, cause your bowels to spasm and cramp to move things along as well as affecting the water balance, and this can be dangerous when you are early post op.

There are a lot of other options which are safer, and should be discussed with your team or GP. Lactulose, although gross, works well. Movicol (prescription) is a bit stronger and less sweet. Benefibre/fibresure should be taken in addition to anything else as a precautionary method to stop problems re-occuring, although if you take this and don't drink enough fluids it can contribute to constipation. If you are very constipated or impacted you can get enemas from your GP which work instantly and are safe to use.

No-one on here should be telling anyone what tablets/medicines are safe to use post op in the early days, we're not bariatric specialists and you shouldn't take anyones word that things are safe.

No one has told her what to take - just adviced what they take. Bypassbee did say she would check with her team too.

didnt relise anyone was TELLING anyone what to take. Just saying what has happened in our own experiances. I was given tremadol capsuales on the ward day after my bypass

to be fair... i had already said i would check with my team...
and i was only asking people what they had taken.

I know that this site is based mainly on opinions, and i know better than to just take other peoples word for it... i just thought it would be good to ask, cos it may have been a no no and therefore no point in trying to bother my hospital with.

I aprechiate what your saying shelbell and your concern, but i dont think anyone wa teling me what to do. :)

ps. its not just a case of Lactulose being "gross" - it actually makes me want to throw up, i have to really try to not throw up after taking it... and i feel sick for a good 30 mins after and its now got to the stage where i dont think i can take it again or i would just throw up, something id like to avoid. Of corse if it was just rank i'd still take it, who cares what something tastes of, its in and gone in no time! And i do take fibersure daily which i also said earlier in my post.

Hi Hun

I had real issues with this 2-3 weeks post op. I found the best thing was to move around alot and keep drinking water, as much water as you can! I ended up contacted my surgical team who said to use glycerin suppositories and drink lots of water! You need to contact your GP or surgeon though before you take any meds though hun! Movicol was good and is on prescription...but as I said...contact your surgery team!
Hope that helps duck x
