Pals have just called me back as I still haven't got a date and she's told me everything has now changed and we have to go through and get funding for the surgery a total different way so I now do not have funding she said iv got an appointment on the 6th June and I have to meet there new criteria before I can be approved for surgery I have to pass on to things #1 you have to be in good health eg heart and be able to prove you can walk at least so many meters which I will be fine with and I think my hearts ok although iv never acctually had it checked and #2 you HAVE to lose weight you can't stay the same but she did say even if its 2lb it's ok as still shows yours losing and then if that goes ok I should have funding and have a date within a few days
This has really upset me because I thought I was guarenteed surgery and now I'm panicking its not going to happen :(

Aw hon good luck and fingers crossed for you. xx

That's a bit wrong. If your already on the waiting list, it shouldn't affect you Kirsty. I'd double check that. Ring the consultants secretary or ask at your appointment. It should only affect people after the changes were made, not before!

She seemed pretty sure :( but I'll check again on Monday, she also said (which I find strange) that she has put my notes on mr leaders desk and ask him to take alook because he has 2 date available middle of June and he picks who he wants to do?

Maybe it's to do with all this regularising of things. Until now Lincolnshire have automatically funded any referral Mr A funded. This sounds a bit like fitting i's and crossing t's to get everything in sync.

I think it sounds like theirs a minute delay for admin purposes and you'll be in the table soon x

that sounds stupid!! If this this is the case, does that mean everybody on the list is going to be contacted or were they just waiting for the next appointment to let people know!?

I contacted them to find out why I haven't got my op date when they said 2-3 weeks and that was 6 weeks ago, she seemed pretty sure about it but iam going to check again tomorrow with somebody else, I don't think they are contacting people probly may mention it at your next appointent, mine is June 6th so not long then I should find out more, she did say though if I got the go ahead I would get a date within a few days of that appointment if not on the same day... This has all really gutted me now all I can think is there going to find a reason not to operate now :(

That is really bad! I've been on the list for 4 months now and not had another appointment since? I rang them us as you know to see if they could give me any more info and there was no mention of this. I know that they have changed the PCT's in to something else - so maybe because the PCT granted funding it means that these new people have to grant funding?

Either way - thats pretty appalling service.

You should definatly have had another appointment there suppose to be every 3 months'ish I would call and remind them, I'm going to check tomorrow as to weather pals are correct I really hope they have got it wrong

It mentions on page 7 about tier 3 and 4 (Which I did) and are making it mandatory now for people to do.

Eligibility for bariatric surgery
Surgery will only be considered as a treatment option for people with morbid obesity
providing all of the following criteria are fulfilled:
 The individual is considered morbidly obese. For the purpose of this policy
bariatric surgery will be offered to adults with a BMI of 40kg/m2 or more, or
between 35 kg/m2 and 40kg/m2 or greater in the presence of other significant
diseases.
 There must be formalised MDT led processes for the screening of co-morbidities
and the detection of other significant diseases. These should include
identification, diagnosis, severity/complexity assessment, risk
stratification/scoring and appropriate specialist referral for medical management.
Such medical evaluation is mandatory prior to entering a surgical pathway.
 Morbid/severe obesity has been present for at least five years.
 The individual has recently received and complied with a local specialist obesity
service weight loss programme (non surgical Tier 3 / 4), described as follows:
This will have been for duration of 12-24 months. For patients with BMI > 50
attending a specialist bariatric service, this period may include the stabilisation
and assessment period prior to bariatric surgery. The minimum acceptable
period is six months. The specialist obesity weight loss programme and MDT
should be decided locally. This will be led by a professional with a specialist
interest in obesity and include a physician, specialist dietician, nurse,
psychologist and physical exercise therapist, all of whom must also have a
specialist interest in obesity. There are different models of local MDT structure.
Important features are the multidisciplinary, structured and organised approach,
lead professional, assessment of evidence that all suitable non invasive options
have been explored and trialled and individualised patient focus and targets. In
addition to offering a programme of care the service will select and refer
appropriate patients for consideration for bariatric surgery.
The non-surgical Tier 3 / 4 service may be community or hospital-based but will
have as their role

I also had the MDT assessment so this isnt anything new for me really but I think it might be best to check - I will do the same tomorrow I reckon!

I haven't had anything no weight management nothing at all I litterally got referred from my doctor and put on the list straight away... I'm really worried now no way can I wait another year to do a weight management coarse and whatever other hoops they want us to jump through!!

Iv spoken to Jane Hayward she's the only one who controls the list and I told her what Brenda from pals has told me and she laughed and said she has no idea where they've got there information but its not true she looked and said I have funding and she said acctually I'm not even on the main waiting list anymore I'm right in front of her on her board and will definatly have a date by end of next week. This has really put my mind at rest I was panicking all weekend even had a few tears, but I'm feeling positive now :)
