Hi All!

I'm new to this so please bare with me.. I went to my GP 3 weeks ago, he said he is going to refer me to the relevant contacts to see if I can be approved for weight loss surgery on the NHS. He told me not to get my hopes up but I was just wondering how long I would have to wait for at least decision to see if i've been "accepted" and how likely you think it is that i'll get accepted? To give you guys an idea I weigh 21 stone, BMI 48, i'm 25, have tried all slimming methods including prescribed slimming pills, My left knee needs surgery due to weight and my family has a history of heart problems. I just have no clue how long I can expect to wait for a decision and then if "yes!" ( fingers crossed ) how long do I wait to have the actual surgery? sorry for all the questions as you can imagine am just really keen to get an idea.. Thanks!!! oh and I live in Berkshire, don't know if it makes a difference? looking forward to hearing from you! :D xxx

Welcome to minimins. I hear it is a postcode lottery as to whether you get funding. It does sound like you have a high enough bmi and some health related complications (which helps). There is a thread with a link to the pct which would give you an idea for your area what they look for in order to fund you. I can not find it at the mo but Im sure someone will be along in a mo to let you know it. Good luck with it all. Take care x

Hi Ditzy cherry and welcome to the minimins Im sure someone in the no will be along to asnswer your ?

Hi Cherry, welcome to Mini's :) Berkshire sure looks like a tough area for funding :( Still you'll get all the help and support you need here to fight the fight! I used to live down there, just outside Reading.
