Hiya i am new to this site and i have to say what an amazing site it is. :)

I have been accepted funding for a Gastric Band and i recieved a letter from my doctors last week, i had to make an appointment to go and discuss the letter with her, whilst absolutely bricking myself whilst waiting in the waiting room thinking it would be bad news my name came up on the screen to go through to see the doctor, off i got out of my chair and in i walked into the doctors room, there she sat with a smile on her face, I said your not about to give me bad news are you, she said what about, i said this letter i have to discuss with you,she said no you have been accepted and you just have to tell me which hospital you would like to go too, she gave me the choices and told me to call her on tuesday.

So over the easter holiday i have been looking around on the internet on various sites and have decided to go to Birmingham Heartlands and see Mr Super, so tomorrow i have to call the doctor and tell her which hospital i have chosen and she will write a letter to them and then its waiting time for an appointment to come through.

I am just wondering what foods you can and cant eat and what drinks you can and cant drink, and is alcohol an absolute NO NO.

Many thanks and sorry for waffling on but i would like as much information as possible from anyone that has had a gastric band on what they have experienced with different foods and drinks. :)

Hi there, I'm only on the soft food stage after the by-pass so I don't know much - just that I had to do the milk diet b4 op for 7 days. Then after op. fluids only for a week and then soft foods (e.g. porridge, scrambled egg, that sort of thing).

Anyway, you will get more info from others who are experienced.

Just stopped to say welcome. I am a bypasser so can not help on the band front

Thanks for the reply, how did you manage with the milk diet before the op?

Hi I am pre op for band so not sure on the whole diet thing as yet. I just wanted to say hi and to tell you that I am having Mr Super at the parkway in Solihull on 30th April. I have heard he is one of the best so we should be in good hands.

Just realised I said By-pass - I've not had by-pass I've had the Band! Sorry - brain malfunction!

 thanks xx

WATCHING THE OP!

Hi
Just watched the op like you said claire, very interesting! Did'nt know my stomach looked like that inside!
I ended up watching various other stuff on UTube and it seems that the higher percent was of success stories with the band than i anticipated. There was some surgeon in America that had posted a lot of videos of people saying it didnt work and he was advocating the by-pass, strange it all came from the one guy!! ;)

I am going to watch some more tomorrow Paula, my brain feels fried at the moment at all the information i am taking in, maybe this time i will watch it without the kids about as my daughter thought it was really gross and it made her feel sick where as my son was very intrigued by it. Glad to see you have got your lips sorted Paula X

Hiya Claire36uk. Once your back on solids, then for the 1st 3 months its only mincemeat, then they wanted me to eat proper meat and ditch the mincemeat. I struggle with some meats and bread, so I stick to wraps and pitta's and the meat, sometimes your just chewing and chewing and chewing. We never really ate meat before my surgery and I think I must buy the wrong cuts from the supermarket, so we're going to go to a proper butcher and get advice.
But other then meats and bread, I can just about eat anything. You can't drink anything fizzy ever again. Thats what I was told, and thats imprinted in my brain. lol. Don't miss my diet pepsi at all.

Thanks for the reply, how did you manage with the milk diet before the op?

It was awful to begin with - I had 2 pints of milk a day and 2 yogs ( Mullerlight). I flavoured the milk with vanilla essence so it tasted better - like milkshake. The first three days were the worst, starving hungry and crappy as hell. The fourth day on was not so bad. When I felt bad, I would literally count out the hours just trying to get through one at a time.

In a strange way, being on the Milk diet is a good option b'cos I couldn't kid myself at all that eating something I shouldn't have would be ok, or I could make it up 2mrw blahblah. There is often rapid weightloss as well which is brill.;)
