Hi

Spoke to my gp surgery this morning regarding my referral. No new referrals are being taken at the moment as I need to be seen by a community based specialist and there are none in the area at the moment argh. so I have an appointment on 26th to see if they can refer me somewhere else.

I am presuming I was referred to Darlington.

Hi Carol, I'm from the North East too! Was told the same as you, but then I had the magic pass (BMI over 50) to get referred straight to the hospital.

Aud x

Hi again, I've just seen a post that says your BMI is over 50, that means you got the criteria to be referred straight to the hospital. If Darlington won't accept you North Tees would! Get back on to your GP ASAP. XX

Thanks

I have made an appointment for the 26th august but I mite just see if I can get in earlier. I am a type 2 diabetic so that should help my situation

I spoke to the secretary at the GP's surgery this morning. she was very helpful she said Darlington hospital said that they weren't taking any new referrals unless the patients BMI is over 50. I said what is my BMI cos I thought it was 52 so she had a look and said so it is and you are diabetic. so she is going to look into it.
Anyway she asked if I was willing to travel as she has just referred another lady to York who had also been rejected by Darlington.

Oh that is ridiculous! I was at my first seminar yesterday at North Tees and the Consultant said they were in partnership with James Cook and darlington hospitals, so there's no need to travel to York ( only if you wanted too!) I had all this trouble to at first, but after i spoke to the consultant who did my endoscopy he said there was no way I shouldn't have been accepted by North Tees. He told me to go to the GP the next day and to get them to refer me back again and to get the GP to phone him directly if they needed any additional information.

Time line of events:

Thursday 31st July - endoscopy

Friday 1st August - spoke to doctors and asked for another referral to be sent to NT

Monday 4th August - received a phone call from the bariatric nurse at NT saying they had received my referral and they were sending me out an appointment for the next week.

Thursday 7th August- paperwork received in the post.

Wednesday 13th August-1st seminar attended

Hope this is helpful.

Thats great thanks Aud it really helps to know someone who is just starting the process and has up to the minute information. I sometimes wish there was more medically wrong with me then they would take more notice. Anyway I am going to chase things up on monday or tuesday, hopefully things wont take too long before I hear something concrete.

How did your seminar go?

Seminar was fine- there were only 3 of us, but we all had a support person with us.
The nurse is going to ring tomorrow to see if I'd still like to go ahead with the process, that's a definite yes! So at least I'm in the system now, all be it at the beginning! Xx

OMG just opened my mail. I have got an appointment at SRH on oct 8th for a group seminar.

Yes I am. But I have just re read the letter and its just a provisional appointment which could be cancelled by the consultant when he has reviewed the referral letter from the gp.

Does anyone know what was put into their referral letter?

I am scared stiff the consultant will turn me down
