One year on

Today it's one year since I had my gastric band and I wanted to mark the event. My life has changed so much for the better I would never has lost so much weight without it nor maintained it.
This site has been a massive support whenever I've felt low or struggled to keep positive I open the app on my phone and read through the diaries of all the fantastic achievements and it gives me the encouragement to pick myself up.
I don't comment often but there are so many people here that offer support and help to fellow banders which is invaluable.
I have lost seven and a half stone this year, it seems to have stuck there for the past month, but I am very happy I've managed that. I was a size 24/26 and now I wear a size 16/18. I never ever wore trousers in my adult like and now I bought my first pair of jeans a couple of months ago and wear trousers every day! So many milestones, little things you can do that mean so much, it is only for having this surgery that's allowed me to experience.
There still more weight to loose but even if I stayed the same now forevermore and never gained again I would be so happy.
So, thank you everyone, I'm very very grateful and having a gastric band for me was the best thing I could have ever done for myself and for my family. My children have a fitter happier mum and hope to be a better role model for them being healthier.

Wow - Amber your story is really inspirational. I am having my band fitted on Saturday and have been really stressing about it, but it is stories like yours and so many other on this forum that have made me feel so much more positive and given me the boost I needed. Thank you for sharing x

Wow - Amber you have done amazingly. You are a real inspiration. I am due to have my band fitted on February 25th and have been having a bit of a wobble about it. But after reading your story it has really helped and given me more of a boost. Thank you xx

Thank you all so much. Yes it's scary to think of having surgery but I can honestly say its the best thing ive ever done for myself. I've always been overweight and tried all kinds of diets went weight watchers, slimming world, lost a bit of weight but could never keep it up or maintain it. Having the band has changed my life. The weight starts coming off - then stays off! It helped me so much as i was a big eater and it controls portion sizes. I loved loved bread!! That was my weakness. Since having the band I don't eat bread any more and to be honest I don't miss it! My dietician says I could have bread, toast a slice of wholemeal or wraps. Since I've managed without it I'm a bit scared in case I can eat it without it getting stuck and start enjoying it again !! I can't really tolerate rice or pasta either so I'm sure cutting them from my diet has helped. The band is a fantastic tool to help loose weight and to force you to learn better eating habits. Friends who I haven't seen for a while can't believe how I look. They keep telling me how much better I look it's a great boost to keep it up.
I will try and put some before and after pics - but don't know how to do it from phone!! Just because I know that really inspired me and proved it can work !!
