Time waiting for surgery on NHS

,,,

I'm planning to bend my knees and put some weights in my pockets at my appointment tomorrow, before she calculates my bmi.

LOL X

Saw my GP beginning January 2010 and still waiting for my first appointment so I think it's going to be a long haul.

My journey so far has taken FOUR YEARS, been turned down twice for funding, have finally got approved this year, still not sure when I will be having the op, had my first appointment at hospital, saw specialist nurse, dietician and surgeon. Now got to wait for pre op then the actual op date, probably another six months :-((((

i went to see my gp in july 09 and got refered to walsall manor. My referal was sent to the wrong department to start with so 7 months later i finally get my first appointment for weight management clinic (16th march)

Nightwitch I'm sure you'll be fine, just make sure you come back and tell us all the gory details lol

will do :D
if i can get on the forum via my blackberry in the hospital i will log in say hi hehe

5 months start to finish for me - would have been 4 but op got delayed...and my BMI was around 45.......

I approached my GP in Feb 09, got refused for funding in March but the approved in June 09 my op on 31st march 10 so 13 months in total...although seems longer lol!

I am thinking I am a lucky girl!
I saw my GP on 7th December 2009
My first appointment at Homerton was 13th January 2010
My second appointment at Homerton was 18th January 2010.
I have my pre-op appointment on 31st March 2010
If there are no problems I am booked in for my bypass on 16th April 2010.

12 weeks from begining to end.

I was referred by my GP in March 2009. I went to an information seminar in June 2009 and had my first appointment with the surgeon in October 2009.
I had a gastroscopy in November 2009 and am having my surgery on 30th March 2010.

The process took 6 months less than the usual route at Sunderland as I had lost some weight between the information seminar and the clinic appointment (and had a written record of that).

There are such wide differences across the country.

first saw dr in sept 09 i am still waiting for my surgery date but i have been put back 6 weeks due to not being able to start my pre pre op milk diet as i had a car crash and need to wait untill my ribs had meanded .. so i am hoping that my date will be about the end of june beginning of july.

From seeing my GP - surgery was 19 looooooong, hard months.

Totally worth it though.

xx

about 8/9 mths start to finish,

think the thing nowis 16 weeks from referal to treatment or so i read on a poster hehe x

Mine will be exactly 10mths from GP referral to surgery. It would have been around 8mths but I had some paperwork go missing and a delay in getting some of the test appts arranged. I don't mind though as my surgery date couldn't have been arranged at a more convenient time for me and I will be 100% prepared when the day comes! :D

Hiya Lostinmy30's,

this is the complete wrong way to ask you this but because im a new member i cant send private message. can you give me any info about the glasgow & clyde route to get band?
I attended my GP yesterday to ask about gastric band.
I have been referred to Weightloss managment as this is the road in to get funding ( i think! ) up at the royal i think.. need to call within 2 weeks to get an appt.
GP thinks i would be a very good candidate as i have bmi of 45, im injection controlled diabetes and im only 21!

all advice would be appreciated!!
