I now I'm gonna ask this question it may of been answered before and I expect to get lots of different answers! How long after a bypass op is it safe to have an odd drink not to get plastered but just a sociable thing now I know the bariactic team say no alcohol for a year but an odd one should be ok shouldn't it? So the question is how long after did you have your first drink and what was the effects and were you ok with a alcoholic drink please don't be mad at me for asking this question and I haven't had a drink already in case you bite my head off lol xx

Depends on what your team say, I drink far far less now than I did pre-op, I used to enjoy 5 or 6 voddies on a friday and a saturday night, now its 1 or 2 voddies a month if that, I waited for 6 months until I had a drink my provider said it was ok after 4 months.

Sunderland told me 3 months. I haven't tried it yet i was never a drinker anyway but my friend said she gets drunk alot quicker but sobers up quickly too! X

I wasnt really given a time frame it was more about the empty calories and I could get tipsy far quicker than I used to but asked the nurse only then they said wait around 3 month longer if possible so I had my first gin and very flat tonic Christmas day......and it was lush ! I took it steady and it lasted me all evening had a few since then but weak ones and its lasted most of the night
hope that helps but do speak to your team

I was advised not to drink alcohol for 12 months and stuck to that advice. I wasn't a big drinker before my bypass, so it didn't bother me.

I had a sleeve, but I was given the go ahead for a glass of wine at my 8 week check.

I was a big drinker pre-op. Mostly wine and gin n tonic. I only have wine now and to be honest, one glass and I'm done. I just don't fancy it so much anymore.

Can't remember when I had my first drink as I wasn't a big drinker before the bypass
If I do have one now it's vodka with orange or cranberry.
But I find it's quite scary now to drink..lol
It's hits me straight away so I have to be very careful.

My team said a year but to have my first drink in the safety of my home... I had a very very small voddie in a long tall sally glass & felt the effects within five minutes of starting it ..by halfway down I was feeling quite tipsy and I didn't finish it because I dumped! So not going to try again until I'm at maintaining level.

I was told 3 months :)
