Obesity Prevention & Management Guidelines

Anyone under Cambs PCT might find the above document useful reading as it sets out proposals for dealing with obesity in the area over the next few years. It also states bariatric surgery will only be indicated for patients with Type 2 diabetes and/or sleep apnea, although young people with BMI>50 can appeal to East of England Specialist Commissioning Team (EOESCT).

This is the case with the majority of PCTs in EOE area:

Bedfordshire, East and North Hertfordshire, Greater Yarmouth and Waveney, Cambridgeshire, Mid and North and South East Essex and Norfolk PCTs are all insisting that obese patients must have diabetes before being considered for surgery, according to an audit conducted by the British Obesity Surgery Patient Association.
