Coated Tongue

Since I changed my diet, I get this horrible feeling like a coating on my tongue. I brush it with toothpaste and its fine but then it comes back, has anyone else had this?

Coating on yout tongue generally means your not eating healthy. maybe you been eating some naughties

But i know you wouldnt do that :break_diet:



Edit.. forgot also it can be caused by not eating much and smoking . but dont know if you smoke or have been a in a smokey place

Ah yes the dreaded 'camel bum tongue' as I call it. Had it almost the entire time I did lighter life.

Get yourself a tongue scraper. It will turn your stomach the first few times you see what you scrape off. After brushing use mouthwash and have a good gargle too.

I think its just from not eating foods that clean your teeth and tongue as you eat them. Like veg and apples and stuff.

I'm getting it too and I haven't cheated once - I probably would but I'm too scared too!!!!

i had that and its to do with the Flora in your stomach. One cause can be due to anti biotics and the other is Dehydration/Constipation. This makes the flora Bacteria over or under generate and shows with a coating on the tongue in alot of cases. U need to drink more water and if your taking anti b's finish the course and then flush your system. This can then lead to mouth thrush...ouch !! which looks and feels the same but your tongue becomes sore ...i had it and wow it was bloody awful. Get drinking that water ...u need a good flushing !! xxxx

30lb in 3 weeks confirms I have had no naughties!

Yeah I understand its to do with the digestive system Lovebug, been drinking as much as I can, but I get very full up at the mo!! I'll speak to the nutritionist and see if she suggests something!

Well the way i get through it Frosty is to be naughty in other ways!!!!

Oh frosty and theres me thinking that you eat chocolate like me :busted: lol

I would put it down to huge change in your diet, as soon as you start to eat more it will go, had it after the bypass it does goes! keep up with your water sipping hun x

Hey CowGirl, I have it too. Is it sorta white/grey as well? Not lumpy or sore. At first thought it was thrush from antibiotics but now I think it is because I drink all my food and I was (not anymore) not reaching my 2000 mls of water per day. If you get a better explanation, let me know okay??

Mouth thrush

I have posted recfently about the fact that I have a really sore tongue at the moment.

I've had it for a few weeks and think that I need to see the doctor, but mouth thrush sounds scary

How could you get that? I'm under an EXTREME amount of stress at the moment, could that cause it? I'm imagining the worst at the moment

Yeah for about 2 weeks post of, i was getting it all over my tongue and teeth. When i brushed my teeth, i would get an awful taste in my mouth. I put it down to ketosis, and the fact that i wasn't eating solid food, or using my teeth.

Yep had the dreaded furry tongue too, tasted like i'd been chewing one of Gandhi's flip flops !

Tried brushing, flossing and garling neat gin, but the only thing that shifted it was a wire brush dipped in scotch

Seriously it goes in a few weeks post op !

for what it's worth, I spoke to my nutritionist about this and she said it's because you don't chew any more while on the liquid diet so you don't produce saliva in the same way and this causes the coated tongue. I found gargling with medicated antibacterial mouthwash helps my furry tongue problemo!

eww the tounge is such an awfull part of us !!! all floppy and sad lol but its the route to why i got fat it let me taste so many nice foods in life ! we should be born with no taste budds so food wasnt a pleasure but an necessity, is there any druggs medication to stop the taste budds working ? lol

Yeah, sounds like you have thrush, I'd go docs this week or it'll only get worse and more uncomfortable. It's not bad or dirty, its just something you can get!

Ooh, that looks yuck! My tongue actually looks normal (and doesn't have a coating or white spots), it is just really sore - mainly on the sides. Maybe it isn't thrush afterall.

Better stop trying to second guess what it is and get myself to the doctors!
