i have been put on level 4 on the weight managment service (a 24 weeks course) im in walsall so will go under walsall manor hospital. does this lead me to surgery ????? any help or advice on this would be gratefully received thanks

Co morbidities or additional factor Diabetes Hypertension Osteoarthritis Sleep apnoea Dyslipidaemia CHD/CVD Asthma Medical or surgical decision that weight loss required prior to treatment e.g. infertility treatment or joint replacement.



Who not to refer

The service is unable to accept referrals for patients who have:
  • Uncontrolled hypothyroidism
  • Poorly controlled psychiatric illness
  • Current alcohol or drug abuse
Due to a lack of evidence the service is are unable to accept referrals for anyone with a Learning Disability.


Tier 4 programme.
After completing the intensive weight loss phase in tier 3 some patients will progress to the specialist weight management service in tier 4. Criteria will be set for movement of patients into tier 4.
