Thanx Chrisa

Hi Mr 97 and welcome. I had my bypass at Darlington 4 weeks ago. I can honestly say the bariatric team are lovely and so are all the staff on ward 32. They took care of me very well. Have you met Mr Samere yet and his team?

Hi Dimond, I did meet Mr Samier, at a seminar I attended last month and I've an appointment with him on 18th Sept. I briefly met the dietician and Sheryl (Bariatric Nurse). They all seem lovely.
Just over a week ago I had to wear a device, whilst sleeping, to check if I had sleep apnea so I imagine Mr Samier will have the results by now.
Please would you let me know what I can expect from my first appointment with him? Does this mean I may get an operation date? I'm a bit of a worrier and I'm half expecting to be knocked-back.

Bit nervous about meeting the consultant and just wondering what I can expect?

Hi mr 97, When I went to see mr Samier I had already been through Sunderland for my seminar and weight goal but I did not want to wait until next year for surgery so my gp re- referred me to Darlington. I had lost the 10 lbs Sunderland had asked me to lose so I did get a date for my surgery on my first meeting with him. I had to get my band taken out first which happened quite quickly then 4 weeks later I had my bypass. Hopefully mr Samier will give you you're opmdate when you see him. He is a lovely man and very approachable so don't be frightened to ask any questions. Good luck and let me know how it goes x

Hi I tried to change to James Cook from Sunderland via my GP but they couldnt and said I would have to go back to stage 1 - prior to approval? Any advise how you managed this would be great - although I am now on the Sunderland waiting list and have had my gastroscopy, 6 months to surgery....

Thanks Dimond, you have put my mind at rest. I have a few questions for him so it's good to know that he's approachable. I'll be sure to let you know how it went with Mr Samier.

Borogirl - Hope you manage to get transferred to James Cook. It seems crazy that your original referral & acceptance at Sunderland can not be transferred to another hospital.

Hi borogirl, I rang Darlington up and asked if I could be transferred there and they said it wouldn't be a problem but had to go back through my gp. I then asked my gp to transfere me to Darlington and she did it straight away. I did not have to go back to stage 1. It may be different at james cook tho! I'm not sure if things have changed now but I only had my bypass 5 weeks ago! Good luck I hope you get sorted
Looking forward to hearing when you're surgery date is mr 97 x

I just received a letter this morning, changing my appointment time on Tues. This letter informs me that I will be seeing the Specialist Nurse and not Mr Samier, as outlined in the original letter.
If this is the case then I don't think I'll be getting an op date on Tues. At least I'll be able to get weighed as I haven't a clue how much weight I've lost due to needing industrial strength scales.

I will just have to be a patient, patient. A trait that doesn't come easy to me.

i don't think any of us are patient, and it can be a long haul. I was saying on another thread to you bout Fatandnotsohappy he is at similar stage to you but through north tees hosp, have a chat with him x

Ann bless you mr 97, Cheryl the specialist nurse is lovely too. I would ask about a date tho! X

Thank you chrisa & dimond - I'll have a word with Cheryl and she may give me a timescale and hopefully I've lost some weight. I'll be gutted if I haven't as I've stuck to the dietician's eating plan like glue and I've been working-out!
Thanks for your time.

No problem, any time x
