Hun I'm not sure this will help at all but please try and remember you have just been through MAJOR SURGERY!!! Your body will take time to sort itself out and unfortunately us girls get all massively emotional when big things happen!! Soon you'll feel better and hopefully see that this was the best decision you've ever made!!!

I hope you feel better soon!!!

Babe, first thing is TAKE A DEEP BREATH...I'll wait....

Okay, now that you have taken a breath. I want to you to take another. Everyone has felt this way before even people who haven't had their surgery. You just have a touch of post-op blues which is caused by extreme trauma (major surgery), intense temporary pain (recent surgery), extreme reduction in calories, inability to sleep well due to major trauma & pain. It will all fade soon and you will feel tons better. It is very common to be weepy at this point and feel scared of your new relationship with food. Don't worry, you will feel stronger soon and a bit more human hun.

Okay now I want you to make sure you are drinking loads of fluids, getting lots of protein in and resting as much as is practical, all those things will help you heal and feel more like yourself.

Feel better and know you are never alone here at minis.

Hugs and lots more deep breaths,
Nic;)

Nic you always know exactly what to say.

Mandy please don't feel bad, you have just had major surgery and it is quite normal to feel emotional. Don't forget all the stress we go through to get the op in the first place then to actually get it is an emotional release, hence the tears. I haven't even had the op and I have been in tears today. It is fine and when you are feeling like this come on here and tell us its the only way we can reassure you. Take care.

Mandy, I cant add anything that our wise Nic hasnt already said, so I'll just send you a hug instead.

(((Mandy)))

I'm sending you hugs with fairy dust to help you until you feel better - we all go through this stage and you will feel better soon xx

Post operative blues can be a side effect of major surgery and general anaesthesia. If you have a history of depression, this post operative state can be alarming, particularly if you have been enjoying recent good mental health. Be reassured these feelings will pass after a few days as the effects of the surgery itself and the general anaesthesia are dealt with by the body. Remember that regardless as to weather you have had laparoscopic (ie through small keyhole incisions) or open surgery you have actually undergone major surgery and your body needs time to cope with the invasion. Add to this the lasting effects of the anaesthetic, and the realization that you have chosen to undertake a procedure that will drastically alter your eating behaviours at least three times a day, seven days a week for the rest of your life. This is a lot to take on board.

Feeling tired and lethargic after surgery is very common. Because you have had general anaesthesia time is needed to process the anaesthetic out of your system. Obviously more anaesthetic is required to put a bigger person to sleep, consequently it will take longer for the effects of this to dissipate, sometimes days in fact. So don’t feel alarmed that you feel as if you can’t get your head off the pillow initially, this is a normal part of the healing process and once the anaesthetic has been eliminated you will begin to bounce back. Rather than fight against it, enjoy the rest! You may be tired for a couple of weeks, so give in, and go to bed early!

It is important to remember that you are an individual and that pain and injury is a very personal experience. Your ability to recuperate can be affected by many things. Feeling low emotionally, recently enduring stressful circumstances, a low pain threshold in general, and many other factors can mean your recovery time will be slow. If you’re positive and highly motivated to get moving you will often find that you recover quickly. It is also worth remembering you have still undergone major abdominal surgery requiring the passing of instruments through layers of connective tissue, muscle and fat and your body needs time to readjust after the invasion.

What your experiancing is perfectly normal and it wont last forever. tell yourself you are a work in progress improving everyday and you will get there.

take care
carole

thanks everyone, had open so keep thinking he did have his hands in there! lol.

Hi Mandy,

I felt exactly the same about a week after the operation. It only lasted a couple of days for me and as you start feeling better it should pass. For me it was the point at which I could lie on my side again to sleep and actually be comfortable which was about 10-14 days. As everyone has said it wont last forever.

xx

I agree with Porpo, once you can a get a good comfy night's sleep you will be amazed at how fast everything becomes so much better.

Mandy this will definately pass and you will feel better before you know it :) Keep looking forwards and things will get better xxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Mandy i was in floods of tears 2 days post op because of lack of sleep and worry and fear etc, mainly lack of sleep, but you get over it, i was fine after i had a good nights sleep, hope you feel better now :)
