well just got another letter from the pct saying......
please find enclosed a letter which has been passed on to your doctor which there wasnt.
The letter states that i do not meet the criteria for the fast tracking into bariatric surgey.
the reccommended pathway within the NICE guidance requires evidence of a patient recieving specialist weight managment.
the PCT has requested that i attend weight services at salford or st marys at penwortham.
both have a long waiting list as i have phoned arrghhhhh.
any ideas now???:mad::mad::mad:

Aaaah, I understand now. You have to show that you've tried everything. My doctor was able to tell them that I've battled for years. So now you need to get yourself on the waiting list and, during the waiting period, get your doctor to prescribe Reductil or Accomplia. It's annoying because it delays everything but the sooner you act the sooner you'll be recommeded for surgery. Good luck - I hope it works out for you. Zxx

yes its a process of trying all other avenues 1st, once you have done them all then you will qualify for nhs wls.

good luck

zetacatty my doctor listed all i have tried as ive been seeing docs for four years first it was ww then slimming w while they monetered my books and then i had to start seeing the dietician, after that failed i went on reductil which i had many side effects so i then went on xenical so its not that i havent tried many ways

Kerry, I'm so sorry that I presumed your weight loss efforts hadn't been through your GP. What more could they possibly want! I feel so angry on your behalf.
Get yourself on that waiting list and, when you manage to get there, do everything they say but tell them you've done all this already. They might just recommend you for surgery. I really wish I could help. Good luck, Zxx

Kerry so sorry you got another rejection. Just do as they ask (even though you've been there and worn the T-shirt) and this way it shows that you're willing to try all avenues again. It may take a while before they decide to refer you again but thats a small price to pay (compared to cost of private surgery lol). You're young and healthy (apart from the obvious reasons you're here) so time is on your side sweetheart. All this stress is'nt going to do you any good so instead of fighting the pct just work with them for a while. Good luck xx

I dont mean to sound rude but most PCTs will require you to have seen the weightloss management clinic as well before agreeing to the surgery if your BMI is below a certain number. They are asking you to try that first (you have tried everything else so thats the next on the list), I would imagine they will then accept you for surgery if that doesnt help. It may be a wait but if you are serious about losing weight and want the NHS to pay I think if it were me I would be pleased that they are at least suggesting something that might be helpful rather than just saying no and thats it.

Is there a neighbouring PCT with a weight loss clinic that you can try. I am under Sandwell PCT but i go to a Dudley PCT hospital for the weight loss clinic approx 3 miles away from me.
It may be worth asking your GP to refer you to a neighbouring PCT if possible

thats so pants ! but sometimes you have to jump through all the hoops they put out just keep your eye on the prize and keep bugging them love and luck

Unfortunately hun, the Salford pathway requires 6 months weightloss management before being sent for surgery if you have a bmi under _?_ number (I want to say 50, not positive on this). I was sent through that pathway when it was just beginning in 2007 and was able to talk them down from 6 sessions to 3 sessions, I don't think that is an option now I am afraid. The waiting list for surgery has doubled since this time last year. I am sorry you have had to weight this long to find this out, it is utterly frustrating. It really should have been known by your doctor before you were sent on.

So sorry hun, I hope it gets sorted soon and you can get into the pathway quickly.

Best of luck,
Nic:)

i will do anything i am asked i would just like to know there will be light at the end of the tunnel but that is something noone can guarentee.
im not expecting it to be handed out ...
its a shame i didnt get refered to salford when i first seeked help 3-4 years ago.
should i find out it is a definate no then i can look at different avenues as i am not wasting more of my life this way....
but hay hoe and away i go with my chin up

dot be put off keep trying and see your doc maybee there are weght loss clinics at some health centers near you that he could refare you to instead of salford or the other one and that may help with the funding if he explaned to them that there was such a wate at the others it would show your comitment

so sorry kerry, but all you can do is as they ask and sit and wait. perhaps you can chase the gp to get you into st marys quicker? or send the pct another letter stating everything you have tried and say you have asked your gp for help but he has been no help? sorry i have no other ideas how to deal with this but keep fighting you will get there in the end hun. let me know if i can help in any way?

sian xx

hi sian hows things your end your new puppy is so cute..
im on the list for salford and st marys to see which one come up quicker as there is quite a wait but hey hoe...
my doctor has been really good as they know i have tried all its the pct who want me to do this so i will to keep them happy as it will all go in my favour that is the only reason they can come up with the answer no...
just hope the list goes down quick and i have told them i will travel anywhere if possible.
kerryx
