Sorry to mention it but my TOTM is out of control. I have not had a monthly for 12 years previous to surgery but now........ they started in hospital and were coming every 2 weeks and now are every week. I have spoken to the nurse at my GP's and she adviced me to see a doctor but I just wondered if anyone is has had these types of problems - I understand that my body is changing but I don't feel I need to make up for ones missed lol. Thanks x

Yep mine are mad as well, you're not alone. Apparently it's something to do with the hormones stored in excess body fat. As you lose weight , they are released into your system and all hell breaks loose with your cycle , moods etc. I have nothing for six weeks then two horrendous ones in a row sometimes. They are all over the shop. I think we'll be allright as we continue on..it should normalise as we get to healthier weights.

I would see a doctor just for peace of mind.
I am lucky in the fact that my periods have become almost normal since surgery. Before surgery I had VERY unusual periods, I could go for years and see nothing and then go 12 months + having a heavy bleed every single day, I have had around three gynae surgeries to try to sort it.
I had a period for around 3 days within a week of surgery, then one a month later for 2 days and then last week I had a two day period too. In my family the women always have periods monthly, lasting 2-3 days and not too heavy and I always felt so abnormal but now I am the 'normal' and it feels great.
I hope you get yours sorted soon xx

Neen, thanks for that I didn't know that was the case! Tink if they are becoming a problem for you I too wouyld go to the docs as she may be able to give you something to regulate them a bit. Mine are regular but have become very heavy since the op.

I have been having 2 week long periods with daily spotting in between since surgery. My GP has put me on the Yasmin pill in the hope that it will sort it out. It has not worked completely yet (2 months) but I have to give it 3 months.

Do visit your gp and see what they suggest for you. Hope it is sorted soon.

Thanks for thae advice xxx

Mine are regular but have become very heavy since the op.

I was just wondering if anyone had this problem post op...I never had this problem before the op, admittedly i was never regular either, but this is the first time I have ever been this bad and have actually called in sick to work today because of it :( just hope it ends quickly...i can't function like this lol

I just feel my emotions are all over the place at the moment and want to cry:cry:

I had the implant put in back in october not that long after my op, and i was bleeding for weeks at a time prior to this which was very unusual for me as mine were very regular...

It seems to have settled down now, and i havent had a tom since feb, not having them at all seems to be more commen with the implant, and it usualy takes atleast 3 months for them to settle.

I do still get the symptoms of tom... not the pain or the bleeding, but i do get bloated and get hungry for about a week each month...

see a dr, it may be as simple as being put on some form of contraception to help make them more regular. And its always best to get it checked out, just in case :)

.x.

been thinking of trying to go for the jab or something

wow, i feel for you having to put up with them so frequently. I have PCOS and had one period every year or so, very randomly since i was 11. Since my op i have had one every 26 or 27 days ! I can't stand it as they are very painful and drawn out.
My GP has warned me that i may now suddenly be fertile - Yikes !! (nagging hubby to go for the snip !)
WLS doc has advised me to be careful as they don't like you to get pregnant within 2 yrs of surgery - i said no worries there, it will not be happening at all !!
GP has said that he'd rather i didn't have yet more meds, but if it was a problem to think about the jabs or the merina coil, as this will do both jobs, protect against pregnancy and reduce the periods.
It was interesting to hear the explanations for the sudden changes, fingers crossed they ease up over time

Oh you poor thing - that must be terrible. Definitely speak to your GP and see if there is something they can do.

I've always been spot on- exactly 28 days for years. When I went in for my op they decide to show up early for the 1st time! Typical. I'm hoping they go back to normal now.

i have pcos and suffered not bleeding for aroun a year then bleeding no stop for months i went to gyne and had a marina coil it is amazing i took around 3 months to settle then nothing at all since.there is a little pain after fitting which is controlled with pain killers but i dont remember feeling this free in year being able to wear what i want and not worrying what might happen. i would recomend them to any one for contraception or just for problem periods.

my only problem is i work weird hours so can never get to the Family Planing clinic in my town, and to get an appointment with my GP takes about 3-4 weeks (i know it's ridiculous!)

think i have a day off coming up soon...may try to go see someone then

Hi Tink
I'm on the Mirena coli so very rarely do I have a period as such but mine started the day before my bypass and lasted a further week after the operation. I bled quite heavily and had a lot of period pain (The operation pain was nothing!). I called the hospital and they sad it was due to the hormonal changes in the body following the op etc. It will calm down - just give it time. BTW - as soon as my period finished I got a really bad urine infection so for a few weeks I felt quite sorry for myself. OK now tho!

I'm 51 and my periods stopped 2 years ago... apart from a couple of stray ones last year, which after investigation, the gynae consultant put down to an old fibroid shrinking. I really hope mine don't come back ! Although they've never been a problem for me I'm happy to continue as I am thank you...
