No NO NO!! the PCT said NO

I found out yesterday at my Whittington support group that the London boroughs of Islington, Camden and Barnet are not refusing lternatively, get the local MP and the press involvedany applications for funding. o you know anyone with an address there you could use? Would mean registering with a new GP and lots of tooing frowing but you would get funding. A

Does that mean that they are quick to agree to funding or that they just don't disagree to funding. I live in Brent (neighbouring Camden). Just wondering whether the doc can apply to Camden. I don't know if that would make a difference!!!!

thats awfull how can they say no, do they ever actually say yes to anyone

Thank you all. In reply to some questions.

I weight 20 stone.

I have got 4 letters in my appeal from the medical professionals. 3 consultants and a podiatrist. One letter from a consultant said that I am at rest from reduced longevity or even sudden death !!! because of my obesity.

I have been tested for sleep apnea and I do not have it.

I have the support of my MP who is Margaret Moran.

I have tried Luton obesity clinic for help. I am afraid it is not in their control. It is the PCT who pay for the surgery. I have had 2 letters from 2 consultants at luton who are frustrated that I am not being funded. How must they feel? They have accessed me and recommended surgery and the PCT wont fund it.

Luton PCT will only fund people with sleep apnea or diabetes or people with exception circumstance's. They do not consider me to have exceptional circumstances.

Luton would not be my first choice for surgery. I am very concerned about the recent death of a 22 year old man at Luton after his obesity surgery.

I'm so sorry..............Any idea what you are going to do now?.........I know it would mean starting again, but could you stay in another area then, sign up with a new GP, with a new PCT?....Because you do need that surgery!

Bless you...don't give up!

~hugs~

Thats awful hunni. I don't know what to say other than to keep trying. Maybe another PCT in another area?

Hope it works out in the end.

x

I am so sorry you have been turned down. If yours aren't exceptional circumstances I don't know what is. They are just unbelievable. Take care. Keep fighting. Sending you some (((hugs))) to see you through.

Having read your detailed post i can't believe they came to that decision. It's pathetic all we want to do is make ourselves healthier after all how many times have we all heard "well your weight is to blame" but when you want to do something about it well that's a different story. Keep fighting don't give up we will all help and be here for you hang in there xx

ginger why wouldnt luton be your choice of surgery? i heard that was 1 of the best places to have the bypass done. is this not the case? im due to have mine done there in the next few months and cant find anywhere anything bad about the place although you can never be 2 sure can u? keep trying for your funding... is there anyway you can try northampton because the pct go by guidelines here eg... if your bmi is over 50 you are automatically accepted. hope to get a reply soon x

I'm so sorry Ginger, it must be so terribly frustrating and upsetting for you. It's not fair that you keep on getting knocked back all of the time. Glad you are going to keep fighting - really really feel for you x
