remoska or crockpot?

As it's about to be summer (positive thinker, me) I'm turning off the Aga and will need to be getting some other appliances to cook with. I'm down to a remoska, a big crockpot/slow cooker and maybe one of those grills with hot plates. I'd really like to just replace the Aga with one of those gas ranges you can turn off and on but am way too poor to do it now so trying for a good appliance for this way of eating that doesn't break the bank. Any recommendations?

Slow cooker 9 pounds at asda and is amazing. I could have afforded pricier but bought cheap to make sure I would use it and if I did I would trade up. No need to trade up as its fantastic.

I agree a slow cooker is the way forward, you might find grilled meat/fish a bit hard going at this point but a little slow cooker and a slow cooker cookbook and you can do allsorts!

I love my slow cooker. I haven't used it much since my op but I downloaded a slow cooker cook book to my kindle today and can't wait to try out the recipes.

I'd also be interested in what others have to say about the halogen oven as I'm a gadget fiend and really fancy one

I think I'll order one this week, as if I've nothing better to spend money on lol

Slow cooker great but do love my halogen, fast and tasty food.will do cakes, full roast dinner anything!

Can you do things like chili or spag Bol sauce in the Remoska? I'm trying to think of how I'll have too cook for the family this summer - roast chicken, burgers, curry, mince in sauce, turkey breast, sausages, roasts, chops. I'll need 2 servings of meat and planning on egg and bacon or ham for breakfast at least a few days a week. I'm thinking the Remoska and a grill (George Foreman, with a hot plate to do eggs on) will do all of that and keep the meat moist, right?
I'm trying to get out of my solitary grazing habit and into meal planning and cooking for the family as well. They're all happy to go with the higher protein/lower carb way of eating but I'm still finding it a bit daunting.

I cooked for the whole family in the slow cooker. Just don't add too much liquid and you will get a really good bolognese. However have not tried the Remoska so can't advise you on that.

My.mum has a halogen oven and absolutely loves it!!

Same here, one of the best things we ever bought :)

I think the halogen browns a bit better so have decided to get both. I'm just turning off the Aga for the summer, it needs a new ring guard and a tune-up I think. I'd get rid of it but then there's this huge gap in the kitchen and I have no idea what I'd put in there other than another Aga or similar (it's got 4 ovens, 2 rings and one of those hotplate things so is a beast), I just don't want it sitting there running up my bills and making the house hot for the summer! I may get a George Foreman grill too, I used to love grilled chicken and steak but am a bit worried they'll be too dry for my pouch, at least at first.

To be honest, since we got the halogen oven, we haven't used the George Foreman grill. The halogen oven is fantastic for chicken breasts. 190 degrees for 25 mins cooks them perfectly. Browned on the outside and lovely and moist on the inside.
As far as seasoning, I use the So Juicy spices, but just coat the chicken rather that cooking in the bag. It goes a lot further that way too.

Guys you are beginning to convert me. Never even thought about slow cookers but you have given me ideas. Thx

I use my slow cooker a hundred different ways :) Roasts, casseroles, meat for salads or sandwiches, soups. Some people make desserts in them! There's hundreds of recipes online. And a slow cooker is perfect for people struggling with the texture of meat and stuff as it makes it so moist.

Definitely going to get one then. Great tip for the So Juicy. I love them

If you look on groupon at the moment they are doing a halogen cooker for £29!

I got one from Amazon for a similar price, it has a replacable bulb and they send you a spare so it seemed the best option though Dh, being part Czech, wanted to splurge on the Remoska from Lakeland. I also got a slow cooker. I'm waiting on the grill, I think between these two I can turn off the Aga and make nutritious meals, though I'm going to have to experiment with a scrambled egg in the halogen, see if I can get it to set without browning, maybe mixed and covered in foil.
Dh is debating getting a full outside grill or the Foreman. Obviously the Foreman is cheaper and they seem to last - when we moved to the US temporarily his mother took our UK one then when we moved back from the US my mother took our US one so this would be the third for us. But they're both still using the ones we gave them so they seem to last a long time. It's just a matter of storage for small appliances, we need to extend our kitchen already so I'm pushing for something outside!
