Hi all just wondering i need some new travel insurance as go away next month should i declare my bypass ?
I just rang one and they said they charge 9 pound extra for the obesity but i dont have to but if i was to go in hospital with something to do with my bypass i would not be covered i am almost 8 months post op im healthier that i have ever been no problems touch wood not sure if to take it or not have you always declared it when going away ?

It will depend on the insurer, they will have a list of questions and they generally include some along the following lines -

Have you been an in-patient in hospital in the last 6/12 months
Have you received out-patient treatment in the last 6/12 months
Have you had a surgical procedure in the last 6/12 months

So if you answer no to all the questions you don't have to declare anything, but if you answer yes you do. Worth shopping around.

I would declare hun as these people try any way they can to wriggle there way out of paying at the best of times...and they can put a lot of things down to Bariatric Surgery..for e.g if you fainted and banged your head they could blame your lack of vitamins related to surgery I know it seems far fetched but they will put a broken toe down to your bypass babe if it gets them of the hook.
I am always going to declare mine its worth an extra £9 I think.

pick up a pack on travel insurance from the post office and there are 4 questions on the back, if you answer no to them, they don't need to know about it.

Who is your insurance with I have just phoned mine and they said an extra £99, thats for an annual insurance

I am not an insurance specialist but I do sell travel insurance (I am a travel agent) as we have obligation to offer it.

If you have been hospitalised for any reason (especially an operation) you must disclose it....If you don't and something goes wrong you will not be covered.

I always tell my customer who take their insurance with me that they should read about the conditions that are covered and if they have any other pre-existing conditions to ring the insurance co and take it from there.

Your condition, and the fact that you have recently had an operation will incur some extra charges...But it's better to be covered...Better safe than sorry.

Oooops Forgot to mention that all operations have to be declared for up to 2 years after the day you had it.
