Hello everyone,
As I've already told you i had an appointment today with Dr Simon Coppack at Royal London Hospital. It was only for about 10 minutes and i didn't have to fill any forms. Dr asked me few questions about my snoring, and previous weight loss. I willingly informed him about my diabetes, high cholesterol and PCOS. He wrote down the name of the medicines that I'm taking at the moment. He informed me that if it is only for fertility then i need to think carefully as there can be high risks after the surgery. I informed him that i have already spoke about this with my fertility specialists that i'm see and and he gave me letter saying that he knows about the surgery and hopes the combined strategies will help to lower my BMI and start the treatment. I was so shocked to know that they didn't have any record of this letter in their system. Dr Coppack took a copy of the letter for further reference and said i need to go thought the sleep apnea test and after getting the results, if everything goes well he will discuss the surgery options with me. So, here goes my confusion again. Is the surgery depending on the sleep apnea test? Dr asked me if i get up at night by chocking of coughing. and i said i get up few times at night but i can't remember if i cough or choke. I also said i feel very sleepy during day time. Dr coppack told me i will have to go through the test first and he will see me again in 4 months time. Also i have told him that i am seeing a dietitian for last 5 months and she said what ever I'm doing to loose weight is right as i have lost few kilos after the first app with the dietitian. I noted that he wrote down that big portion size is a problem for me. I'm happy with todays appointment as I'm going on a big holiday for 2 months so the time will be gone with the wind :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Sounds like a normal first visit when your BMI is not over 50 (in my area). Good luck with the apnoea test and your long holiday.

I'm going to sweden and italy this month for 2 weeks and then to Bangladesh for 2 months.

Hi Farzu,

I'm under Dr Coppack as well, he's very nice but i've found the admin side of things very slow and a bit muddled...I'm currently waiting for an appointment with the surgeon, although the last time i spoke to the hospital they hadnt received the referral letter yet

Good luck with your sleep test and have a great holiday!

Have a cracking holiday hun! xx

Hello, sleep apnea is nothing to worry about, they just need to know if you have it and get it treated. I have sleep apnea and i have had a gastric bypass. I think it is more to do with the anaesthetist needing to know because he is going to put you to sleep and I suppose he needs to know if you will breathe correctly when he does. I do remember taking my machine for sleep apnea down to the operation with me.

Sounds like your appointment went well Farzu :)

Have a fab break and come back refreshed and rearing to go :)

Take care Xx

Hi Katastrophe,
we can be buddies then and wait for the surgery together. I liked Dr coppack but he seems to be always in a hurry lol. Hope u get your date soon. By the way, yesterday i read a notice in the hospital board saying ' Dr coppacks appointment is overbooked so you may encounter severe delay.

Hi njs74,
If i don't have sleep apnea, does it make any difference in the decision making for my surgery? I'm scared.

Hey Swizzlestick, How r u? its been a long time, where were you dear? I hope the holiday will go well. 2 of my cousins are getting married. I really need to refresh my brain as my last term of MBA is starting from Jan :D in University of Plymouth. I think i'll move there. Hubby can stay and rot in London lol.

Hi njs74,

It does not make any difference to there decision, they just need to know if you have it and get it treated. One of the main causes of sleep apnea is being over weight. If you do have it, it gets treated quickly, it will not affect the decison or delay anything, don't worry.

Hi Farzu,

That'd be great ! Youre right he does seem in a hurry most of the time and i dont know about you but i always feel like i've forgotten something or don't have enough information.

Unfortunately i was diagnosed with sleep apnea when i had my test back in august, i now have a 3-4 month wait for a cpap machine so i don't think i'll be having my op any time soon.

Dr Coppack said he was going to refer me to the surgeon at homerton 2 weeks ago but also said it'd probably be 3 months till theyre ready to give me a date... Not sure what else theyre going to do but i'll keep you updated so you know what to expect :D

hi im with homerton and took about 3 months 4 decision then its waiting 4 surgery from there then u get date my m8 got referred from mr coppack to homerton and has been waiting since june there is a back log im told xx
