Had my first appointment today.....but i'm confused.

Hi Sarah,

Wow they are behind, guess we're in for a long wait then.

Did Homerton sort out your funding for you and how long have you been waiting since they agreed the surgery?

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long before you get your date :)

thanks for the replies. I heard somewhere in this forum that funding is automatic in east London area. not sure who wrote that but she got the auto funding.

Hi Farzu

I think it depends on what part of East London you are, I'm in Newham pct, I'm not certain it is automatic but once they had finally received my funding application they acted on it within 24hrs and faxed back the agreed consent to Homerton.

Tower Hamlets pct may be automatic once you are accepted for surgery.

I think Sarah is Barking and Dagenham pct, not sure how they operate, but it wont hurt Sarah to ring them to ask if they have received the funding application. When I rang my pct, and they told me they hadnt received it, they were very helpful and actually chased it up on my behalf.

have a fab break and enjoy it x

Hi Farzu,

I'm in a different PCT to you but I was told funding is automatic if you have a BMI over 50.

I was tested for Sleep Apneoa during my assessment, and found to have it. I had to use my machine for 2months and make sure it was under control before my opp. But no problem with having the opp, I just had to take my machine into hospital with me and use it.

It has made a fantastic diff to my quality of life, I used to be sleepy all the time during the day. Now the only place I fall asleep is in bed, with my machine on.

Good Luck
Jeanx

Seems you don't need to worry too much Farzu. Just concentrate on enjoying your holidays (they sound fab) and then bringing some sunshine back, although i'm not impressed you told Roch she can have it all for herself..... surely you could pop a bit extra in your suitcase so we can all have a bit?

Hi,
I am under the care of Dr coppack also, I have been seeing him for over 4 years and we have only just started talking about operations, Im 25 years old and my BMI is in the high 80's. I have been diagnosed with 'severe' sleep apnea but im struggling to use the machine as i feel like its choking me. im thinking of booking another appointment at the chest clinic to get re assessed. the pressure on my machine is 10, but i feel alot more comfortable on 5 or 6 but my machine does not allow me to adjust the pressure permanently. does anyone know how long it takes to get a date for the op, I am waiting for an appointment to see an anesthetist.

Hi Tjania,

From the time of my refeeral till op date (next week) I've waited 6-7 months.

It differs from hospital to hospital how long it will take to get your op. There will be test you will need to have done and if you get the ok for the op they will need to apply for funding.

What hospital are you under?

It may be a good idea to start you own thread you may get more replies.

The hospital I see Dr Coppack at is St Barts.

Swizzlestick was under him also. She waited about 2 years because of health problems. She had her op yesterday at Homerton Hospital.

I myself am under one of his colleagues Mr Mannur. My pct fund automatically if you have a BMI over 50.

WOW glad to hear that Swizzlestick had her op done. she had to wait for so long. Hope she gets well soon.

As i'm in Royal London Hospital i might get referred to Homerton too. can anyone tell me How do we book for sleep test? I didn't get any letters from them yet and i have only a month in hand before i leave.

Has your surgeon said you need one? If yes he can refer you for one, or if you feel you have symptoms speak to your gp they can also do a referral mine did.

Farzu,

If i was you i'd check with Dr Coppack whether he is referring you for any tests.

I had my initial appointment with him in January this year after being referred by my GP in november, when i went back to him in May he realised that my notes had been lost - i didnt know i should have been going for tests elsewhere in that time so i had to wait another 3 months for the sleep study plus other tests and then another month to see him again which is when he referred me to Homerton.

I'm still waiting for my appointment date from them to see the surgeon and dietician and its been over a month now.

I dont leave anything to chance now since some people seem to get lost in the system a bit too easily.

Hi Katastrophe,
Thanks a lot for the information. Dr Coppack told me i will get the appointment for the sleep test by post but after reading your post i think i should check on them. I am seeing a fertility specialist in St barts and he also wrote in a letter that wls is going to be good for me to start fertility treatment. When Dr coppack was checking all my files in their system he said he doesn't have any letters from my fertility specialist. i was quite shocked. Then he copied it and kept in my file. He seems to be in hurry all the time. his shoe laces were untied too lol.

Lmao i didnt notice that! So busy he hasnt got time to tie them i guess.
