UNABLE TO SWALLOW

Hi. Have had my gastric band for 5 years and for the past month have had vomiting and reflux. Also painful throat and extreme pain on swallowing even water. GP sent me for endoscopy today and they found polyps but said the main problem must be my band. They say they can't help as it isnt their speciality and to go back to GP. I am concerned as I have only been able to take sips since Tuesday and am unable to eat any food due to pain and vomiting. Anyone experienced similar? Now am stuck over the weekend as no support services available. The specialist I saw was unsympathetic saying that 'You people who go private leave the NHS to clear up the mess'. Not keen on being too long without fluids.

Shame you aren't in London to go to St George's.

Go to A&E without delay! And before all the Friday night drunks get there.

Try and choose a hospital that does bariatric surgery, they will at least have a surgeon somewhere on their contact list!

No fluids is not good.

Get yourself off to A&E if you feel your becoming dehydrated. If you go there, they are legally obliged to treat you as you have gone there for emergency care.

I agree with the advice you have been given so far and the specialist you saw had no right to talk to you like that. Don't be put off- get help straight away.

try get to northern general in sheffield if you can get someone to drive you.

you people who go private have saved the nhs costs of surgery and in the long run save them a small fortune so the pissy doctor needs to learn to keep his trap shut to be honest

Thank you all so much for your advice. I have been referred to Derby Hospital asap (hopefully Monday). Advised to only drink fluids, ha ha. I wish. Obviously feel weak with poor intake but managing to suck chunks of ice lolly. Painful but better than nothing. If I feel worse I will go to their A and E.

I live in Nottingham. If you need anything over the weekend, I'm more than willing to help you. Or if you need to go to Derby A&E and have no one to take you, just shout up on here :)

A copious source for fluids is sugar free popsicles. Suck on add many add you like instant fluid. Jello is another good instant fluid without drinking and these should not Hutt your throat. If anything it should make it feel wonderful. Dirty to hear under weather and no ones on your side. Never hesitate to contact your surgeon when having problems they are your best source in these matters. I hope this helps, and those fluids are good fluids and won't s cause weight gain

Thankyou for the very kind offer Paula. My other half is lined up for taxi duties. Am lucky he is self employed. Well stocked up on ice lollies too.
