Very strong metallic taste in my mouth!!!!

Pookiedoodle

Totally in love with Mika
Argh, it's so horrible, it's really getting me down!

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, if maybe it's a side effect, or if it's absolutely nothing to do with my bypass at all.

I've had it for about 4 days now. Although it's constant, it's worse when I eat or drink & it's waking me up at night because it's so strong.

I just want it to go!!!!!

Have u recently cut out alot of ur carbs as this sounds exactly the same as ketosis, which is when ur body is depleted of carbs and u get the horrible metallic taste, if this is it or even if its not then try upping ur water as it might flush what ever it is out of ur system xx

Hi Roch, thanks for the reply.

I've not changed my diet at all, I eat carbs, but not an excessive amount.

So, I really don't think it could be that.

Hmmmmm!

xx

Could it be something to do with ur teeth maybe a prob with a filling as in the past that has caused a metallic taste in my mouth, apart from that have no ideas lol xx

Nope, everything's fine in my mouth.

I think I may have to give my GP a visit tomorrow, because it really doesn't make sense, and it's making me feel thoroughly miserable!

You're looking fab in your new photo by the way, well done!!

Too much iron can cause a metal taste... Could be a build up if you're taking supplements?

Thanks Kat, I am taking multi-vits every day, but I thought I had to after my surgery.

Think I'm gonna have to see what my GP says about this.

I had a metallic taste in my mouth post-op. It was horrid.

I thought it was ketosis - but it didn't tally with blood sugar results - I was/am diabetic!!

Put it down to the WLS - and eventually it passed - I did increase my fluid intake because I knew I wasn't taking in enough fluids. Blood tests were fine.

Used loads of toothpaste and mouthwash till it passed

Hope you get it sorted

Are you on any tablets? I have had tablets in the past with a side effect being a metallic taste, a bit like you have handled money and then put your fingers in your mouth  x

I had it post-op, it was as if i'd been chewing on an old 2p coin it was awful!!!!! It does pass though, i found sucking on an ice lolly a god send!

Thanks everyone.

I'll just have to see what happens, hopefully it'll go soon, it's so horrid!

I remember Tendersage (Di) saying she had a metalic taste when on a pre-op milk diet. It turned out she was reacting to the lactose I think. Have you increased dairy products lately? Worth asking your GP about.
