Introduction and question

Hi all, new to this site hope in in the correct place to post this!! Am hoping to have G'band and have a private consultation booked with THG early next month, but was hoping to find some reviews for the clinic, surgeons, aftercare.....

It you can help in anyway I would appreciate it.

I went to a consultation with THG in cardiff last year. They were very professional and the surgeon explained everything to me including other gastric surgeries as I was unsure which one to have. Although I chose to go with a different surgeon in the end for various reasons, I would have been happy to go with them. Im sure there will be someone along in a bit who can give more info on the care they received xx

There are definitely members on here who have had a gastric band with The Hospital Group. I was also considering them as an option - Dolan Park, Mr Sigurdsson. I'm sure the people that have had surgeries with the group will be along shortly but from memory they had good experiences to share Good luck on your journey and welcome to the site x

Hi chummy I had gastric band fitted at Dolan park by thg. My surgeon was sigurdsson - very no nonsense type. I had a 10ml band with 4ml at surgery, I've had 4 fills since and now have 6.75ml and have lost 52lbs in total.

I'd done a fair amount of research and knew before I went that it was GB for me, and to be fair to mr sigurdsson he did still go over the other options with me.

I found the salesperson very attentive till they had your money - then not so (but hey I guess her job was done). It can feel a bit like being on a conveyer belt but go prepared with all your questions written down and you'll get what you need.

I've never had an issue getting a fill when I wanted and all the staff ave been lovely.

I think as long as you don't want someone holding your hand constantly then you can't go wrong with thg.

This site has lots of support and fab advice.

If there is any in particular you want to know shout up x

I also was banded with THG Aug 28th last year.

I have no complaints what so ever. From before surgery , during my stay, amd aftercare.

As long as you follow the rules you will be ok.

Just go into with all the info. It is not a 'quick fix' like some people think and you have to work really hard but it is worth it all.

Thanks for your help. Hadn't heard of them but since talking to you I've made an appointment and are due to see them on Thursday. Think they are the one for me. X

I'm glad that you've made contact with them. I felt uncomfortable with THG and the contact that I had from them and considering that I had actually been thinking of WLS over a period of 7 years there was a fair amount of contact. I saw Dr Ashton, he gets straight to the point, certainly no sugar coating, but as a whole the support from them has been great. One of my other considerations was due to my fear of anaesthetic I had to go with a surgeon etc that had a zero % mortality rate and these were one of the only companies who could give me that

Let me know how it goes - there's a few of us on here who went with HW

They also do it via the belly button too. So fantastic all round. X

I went with THG at dolan park for my band and am extremely satisfied with the service I have received. I do agree with meggie moo about the sales prerson though. My surgeon mr super was a direct, no nonsense sort of guy, but tbh I prefer that rather than a sugar coated approach. The nurses were all fantastic and I have haven't issues with the aftercare from the nurse or dietician I have received over the past 20 months, although I am not a very needy patient, if you know what I mean! I did a lot of research, went in with open eyes and was focussed on making my investment a success by following the rules. Luckily I have hit no stumbling blocks along the way, but some people do, and that's usually when the negative comments about an individuals specific provider start to appear ... Imho sometimes justified, sometimes not. Sometimes patient/surgeon/provider blame gets confused

As the saying goes you pay your money and take your choice. I chose THG/Dolan as its close to home, mr super works on both nhs and private patients, and like topkat said, it was important for me to know that he had done thousands of the band ops, and he had a zero mortality rate too.

I contacted healthier weight first and was given loads of information and booked a consultation, they actually said have a look around at other companies too, so I called THG and whilst they gave me the cost, I must've just got through to the one person who couldn't have cared less, no offer to send me info or book me a consultation or ask me anything. I see so many people get banded at Dolan park though and are happy and more importantly successful

I booked with healthier weight after their consultation, I too like the direct no nonsense approach and felt really comfortable.

For me it was a bonus that they can band me a lot closer to home than anyone else too!


I get mine in less than 2 weeks now!!!

Which clinic and surgeon did you go for? I'm thinking of having the single incision gastric band op. would be good to stay in touch and get you over all opinion on the service they offer. All the best for your procedure. X

I'm going with Mr Kelly at the Wessex Nuffield in Southampton, he was great.

He doesn't do the single incision and as I've had 2 laparoscopies before I wasn't massively worried about the scarring.

I have nothing but praise for Prof Favratti. Surgery was excellent, aftercare great and weight loss tremendous.
