4 months to surgery! So much anxiety

Hi! Try and enjoy the whole process honestly! You're going to be in the best hands possible for the surgery, the surgeons have gone through this process hundreds of times and know exactly what they're doing down to the smallest degree, there really is nothing to be nervous about if you think...

Eating too much? (Quite a long post!)

Post op bypass here! I was really worried that I wad eating too much, and moving too quickly between the different food stages. As other people have said if you're losing weight and the amount you're eating isn't making you feel ill or sick then you're probably OK! Lots of protien, keep up...

    Under Luton and Dunstable Hospital

Hello! I went through the process at L&D, the team there is excellent. Echo what's been said already, lots of reading and research are your friends. It's mentally tough after surgery but absolutely worth it. Protein and sipping lots of water are the keys to success!

    Hi Everyone

Hi and welcome! I'm 4 weeks post op from a bypass and I can honestly say I had almost zero pain post op from the surgery site, just a bit tender but certainly advisable to make alternative sleeping arrangements so you're not straining your muscles. What you'll have to watch out for is the...

GP finally referred me to Homerton

It's not a 5 minute fix or a magic wand, not at all. I think I was a bit nieve thinking it would be easier post op than it is, but it's hard, a bit of a slog and a grind. You get out of it what you put in! It's true they might get to the end of the process and decide that surgery isn't right...

Newbie and confused, Luton & Dunstable

Also as a note the mimimum time window the NHS has to carry out an op is 18 weeks, so it'll be at least that long from whenever you're refered. Of course different surgeons can have longer waiting lists! And yes everyone will do at least 6 months on Tier 3. It's time to use to get your head...

Newbie and confused, Luton & Dunstable

Hi, Yes tier 3 will be either 6 or 12 months depending on your BMI / health bits, so don't expect a November surgery! This time next year maybe. They seemed to take blood at random so just turn up expecting it to be taken Good luck and all the best, just had my surgery there last week and...

Hello, I'm totally new to this so here goes...

I was the same, always waiting for them to turn round and give me the elbow but they never did and I had my surgery last Wednesday. It'll be alright on the night, just keep being positive :)

    My journey has just started

Welcome and good luck! I went for a bypass as my Fiance had one and it worked out brilliantly for her, and my surgeon recommended it (as he's done loads of them before) X

    Anxiety overload

No you should go straight into it, there is a waiting list for the actual surgery. My first appointment at Luton and Dunstable was last May (ish), and I was referred for surgery in March this year so the whole process from start to finish has been about a year for me.

    Anxiety overload

Yes I have my bypass next week :) Tier 3 starts when you get to the hospital really, it sounds like you're in that stage at the moment? Have they asked you to do the milk diet for a few weeks and lose say 5% of your weight etc? Its a 6 or 12 month programme depending on your BMI / other...

    Anxiety overload

Tier 3 is the bit you do before you get the OK for surgery. You'll be asked to do the milk diet to get a feel for the steps you need to take (and to show your commitment) At the end if it you'll meet a dietitian, anesthetist and a psychologist who will assess you and hopefully put you forward...

    Anxiety overload

I was over the "required" BMI on my first visit and dropped under it during the various stages you need to go through. It's a good thing as it shows you're committed to weight loss and the process so don't worry, and good luck!
