i've read somewhere that post bypass you can suffer from receding gums. I think it was due to the malabsorbtion.

Twas what I was thinking too. Maybe be he needs to take vitamin D?
 
Don't laugh at me, but are they his own teeth or dentures? So sorry if i offend, but if there not his own it could be a gum thing :( Either way good luck finding out the cause xx
