Best Surgeon

I think you'll find that we would all recommend our surgeons that did our own operations, mine was wonderful and felt like a friend.

How do you define "best"? We would all be biased towards our own surgeons Farzu so I'm not sure there is a right answer to this. My surgeon Mr Ammori is well respected and takes on high risk cases that some others would turn away, is he the best? I reckon so but other members here would have their own ideas.

Agree with what the others have said and definitely agree with Karlos that Mr Ammori is the best. I researched it thoroughly and could have had my op in Scotland but chose to travel to Manchester as he seemed to be the most reputable surgeon.

Mines the best hahaha xx

Mine was ok but has since stopped working where I was after a death which was all over the news, so I break the rule of recommending your own surgeon!

Thanks everyone,
My funding application is stuck at the moment in homerton. its stuck from October 2010 and i applied on Jan 2011 so i think it will be a long wait. I spoke to the PCT and they informed me that they are waiting for new policy. Asked me to call back in few months time.

At last i asked my father to pay for my surgery and he said he will pay pay me end of next month. I am feeling so guilty after asking money from my father. I'm feeling like a burden on everyone. I already took a lot of money from him for Education and other expenses now i asked for more :( . Anyway, I was also thinking about getting the surgery by Mr Ammori in private. How do i contact him? Will it be too much if I travel to Manchester from London for surgery? Any tips? xx

everyone who went for private surgery.. How did you inform your GP about it? Did you get any papers from the Surgeons who did the surgery? How did you get the after care from local GP? xx

I went through Surgicare and asked for Mr Ammori or you can contact the Spire direct. I travelled from Edinburgh and only stayed in hospital for one night and then travelled back home the following nite. No problems whatsoever.

You don't need to tell your doctor before hand and then after the op all the paperwork is sent from the surgeon so that your notes are up to date and the gp knows what meds you require.

Hope this helps

Had had my rny done in Manchester by mr ammori, he sent letters back to my gp in Cambs. The only thing I can say is may gps don't understand enough about the bypass... A huge learning curve is needed on what meds you can't take etc ... Mine still get it wrong xxx

We will all think our surgeon the best. But if you are travelling a long distance you have to factor the cost of the post-op outpatient checks - which for some surgeons can be life-long.

The team in Leeds were pioneers of WLS both open and laparoscopic - so I feel they are all eminently skilled in what they do - but its a long way from London to Leeds (I know got a daughter at uni in London!!) - and I wouldn't recommend long distance surgery.
I have had it - I had a back op in London while living in Somerset - and had to travel on public transport -ouch!!

PS I ended up with my surgeon through default - I'd waited too long on the NHS and was just allocated mine!!

xxx

Mine knew before hand as I was asked to get blood tests done beforehand for the anaethatist, he was very supportive, he'd been through the last 5 years of my struggling with my weight and knew that I hadn't reached my pct criteria to get a band on funding.

I was sent home with a very detailed letter as to what I'd gone through and when my stitches were removed even the nurses commented on what a neat job was done.

I'm another bypasser who went with Mr Ammori. I travelled down to Manchester from Glasgow after researching him and meeting with someone who had surgery with him.
Like Andrea, I was in hospital one night and home the next day and am 100% happy with the result of his work.
