Hi are u allowed any sugar after bypass, or can u get away with tiny bit, same with fat!!

Hiya i cant eat anything sugary or too fatty as it makes me dump big time. I loved chocolate before surgery cant eat it now & to be honest i dont even miss it........ never thought id say that lol x

Most dieticians recommend no more than 5g per 100g fat or sugar, so you have to learn to read the labels! After that it depends on the individual, some tolerate fat with no problems, some don't, and the same goes with sugar.

Personally, I can tolerate some sugar but do dump when I have too much. I can have more than the 5g/100g though, and fat has no effect on me whatsoever.

thanks everyone just been looking at food lables and wanted to know x

My hospital paperwork says 10g per 100g of sugar and just says low fat. I havent had too much sugar yet and used to have a major sweet tooth. Not missing my choc/cakes though think Ive conquered my addiction (fingers crossed). I try to stick to low fat but have had normal cheese which is not low fat and its had no effect on me.

It is so hard, I have not been given guidelines but hear between 5% and 10% on here so have settled trying to keep below 8g of each per 100g. but it is quite hard to find things. I went for low fat yogurts and kept putting them back as some were up to 15g of sugar.

It also doesn't do too much for old eyes trying to read the small print. I shall have to go shopping like Sherlock Holmes with a magnifying glass.
