After much consideration and a lot of support - some through directly asking people here but so much through reading and rereading so many of the threads here (thanking you all)... I have booked surgery just before Christmas.

I'm excited and a little worried. I have a will in place, just in case, and now need to focus on being emotionally ready. I woke up yesterday thinking OMG I cut my stomach out. I then went to work and while on a train was offered a seat... I think the kind gentleman thought I was pregnant. I booked by the end of the day. No regrets yet.

los in it - thank you - I couldn't help but notice that you lost 140lb's in a year that sounds like a distant dream at the moment.

beepbeep cat - you seem to have had a much longer process.. the lady who has been in contact with me said I literally needed bloods, a psychologist appointment and dietician... I got the impression that would be it. Is there more to it? I think you will be almost a complete month ahead of me, so please remember and share everything, surgery buddy! I am more excited now that I'm not alone.

Well done on booking...i have no regrets at all...sometimes i dream i am eating lots of food and havent had the op! I do miss a good meal. You will be so glad you did it when this time next year you are a different person. Good luck x

What are you taking with you to the hospital? Do you need a chaperone?

Did you get told you could be driving by day 5 and back to normal by two weeks too? Not sure if I was getting a hard sell (i would have gone ahead anyway) or if it is really that simple a procedure... I'm worried about silly things like the tube in the throat and will it damage my voice ... I've had a tube in my nose down to my stomach before and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had... I'm also thinking I hope they put me to sleep before they do anything like injections or tubing etc.

Dressing gown, night shirt, pj trousers, 4 pairs knickers, big trousers, 2 big t shirts, dental care bits, flannel, baby wipes, feminine wipes, sanitary towels ( as I've herd you may have a bleed), earplugs, deodorant, all paperwork I've received, hairbrush, hair ties, mint tea bags,

Congrats on your decision!

They can't put you to sleep before taking injections I'm afraid - it requires a cannula in the hand to deliver the various drugs into both immediately before the op and afterwards. You'll be asleep when the tube goes down the throat and most likely awake when it comes back out again (I was)

I did the same thing with making a will!
Had surgery late afternoon Friday, up and walking about Saturday morning, home on Sunday. Afterwards only found the puree stage difficult (wish I'd have known I could have had cottage cheese, strange the foods you come to live after a sleeve op). Other than that it's been a breeze. Lost 5 stone in 6 months, 3 stone to go. Best decision I've ever made, only wish it had been an option years ago.
I'm sure it will be great for you too.

Afterwards only found the puree stage difficult (wish I'd have known I could have had cottage cheese, strange the foods you come to live after a sleeve op). Other than that it's been a breeze. I don't even know what I'm meant to have preop - you've done so well. I'm going to close my mind to anything that will scare me away and just focus on long term success stories like yours.

I got an appointment through with the dietician today. I'm surprised that it's a 20 minute phone call. Surely given the price they can afford to offer a face to face meeting ... I'm now wondering if this is a sign of things to come.

Family read mail and are extremely annoyed/angry/hurry/worried/borderline aggressive that I haven't discussed it with them at all.

I'm annoyed with provider as I had specifically asked for no postal communication. Not sure if it's better to discuss and share reasoning or just avoid discussing altogether as I don't think they will ever understand.

Good luck with it Marz. I was looking at your list of things you're taking to hospital and I smiled - it was very like my list. However I didn't end up using most of what I took! Don't forget something to read. Oh and slippers!

Don't worry about the over the phone consultation. I had that too and was surprised. Like you I went private and expected more. I also didn't see my surgeon after the procedure which was odd.

Going under was so quick and painless - I didn't even really notice the cannula going in. The team were so professional and put my mind at ease straight away. I'm nearly four weeks out from surgery and feel fantastic.

If you want a really easy pre-op diet I suggest looking at Weight to Go - they do a surgery box that provides you with everything you need pre and post op. I found it so much easier than trying to plan and prepare food.

Best of luck - let us know how it goes - and remember, you're doing this for you and you alone. As long as you are happy and confident in your decision, f&*k what anyone else says.

That was beepbeeps I think. Although I will be looking at it a couple of days before surgery. Parents are sulking which is fine as long as there are no arguments.

I've been looking at things like gall bladder complications and reflux and am wondering whether it happens a lot.

Family have now calmed down. They discuss when the surgery jus hiking to happen rather than if and I'm now getting the sense of some support, which is nice.

Appointment with dietician early December two weeks before surgery. I think I might start exante for preop diet next week.. I quite like the taste of the packs. 3 weeks to go, do I really want this?

Marz I'm glad you have some support now! Fantastic..it's quite normal to have a wobble when your brain realises how serious what you are doing is. It's a massive life changer!

I'm one week pre op - lost 12lb this week. Surgery next Sunday and im feeling excited.
