I all,

I have my Endocrinology Appointment on 14th October and I have no idea what to expect?

Can people please give me some ideas as the appointment letter wasn't very clear.

Can you tell me what they do, how long it takes etc?

Thanks! xxx

Hello there

I have been under an endocrinologist for some years as I have p.c.o.s ( poly cystic ovarian syndrome)and hormonal issues, I am unable to offer you insight to what will happen when you go as I do not know what else they treat ppl for or your reasons for going to see one, Wishing you all the best - Julie xxx

Hi Julie, I know it's for tests to see If I'm fit for surgery. (btw I also have PCOS- it sucks!)

Thanks :) xxx

Dont it just , lol.. Erm tbh I have never known anyone to see an endocrinologist to see if they are fit for surgery (I saw a pre op nurse etc for tests) Maybe someone else on here can shed some light for you. Wishing u all the best xx

All the appointments for WLS here in Coventry are in the endocrinology department. it's a weight loss and endocrinolgy centre. We don't have a baritric department I don't think, so maybe that's the reason for your appointment.

I've seen an endocrinologist a few times, tbh they all rely on blood tests, its all guidelines and 'normal levels etc'.

Write your questions down for him.

All the best

i have had several appointments with the endocrynoligist, although i didnt know this until yesterday after i spoke to neeta on here!! i thought he was the surgeon as my letters never stated what the doctor specialises in very informative i must say, my first appointment was him asking me lots of questions after i had been weighed and then he said ok we will see you in 3 months and hopefully you will have lost weight. i went back and had lost weight yay!! so he said ok i will refer you to the dietician and put you forward for the surgery and see you again in 3 months, the next appointment i saw someone else and thought she was quite rude but that is another story, then i saw the original dr again and he said you are doing well and have been refered on for the surgery and next time i see you i hope you could have lost more weight to prove how determined you are for the surgery, i then got an appointment through to see the surgeon where i went last thursday and he had a long chat with me and said ok you need to go and have bloods taken now and go down to see the dietician then we are all set to go if you are successful at the mdt meeting next thursday(13th) and then on friday i recieved another appointment to go back to the first dr i saw not sure what this is for but im sure they know what they are doing, after that my next appointment is with the dietician at the beginning of dec to discuss the pre op and post op diets, so im keeping my fingers crossed for the outcome on thursday!!! dont worry the dr will understand that you are nervous as it is all new to you but they put you at ease basically wanting a detailed medical history from you and to check that you are suitable for wls. the surgeons work in a team alongside loads of other drs and they will all see you at some point on your journey, so good look and dont fret huni xxx

I had to see one, He just checked my bp, weighed me, took a very detailed history, asked me which op I wanted and why. Then I had to lose weight over a 3 month period before he met with the psychiatrist and dietitian and put me forward for surgery.

My first appointment at the hospital on this journey was with the endocrinologist and the dietician - not together but on same date and from one to the other.

He went through my medical history and possible reasons for weight gain that may be hormone related (one branch of endocrinology) and may be suitable for treatment other than wls.

He also explained how a band is fitted and works - at that time they were transitioning from one consultant to another and the band was their preferred option and the only procedure offered at the trust until last month.

No blood tests or investigations from that appointment apart from a request to havw a cholesterol test done as it had never been checked before.
