I had a sleeve 8 days ago at SRH, where the dietary advice is purees from day 3. I feel so tired and 'wobbly' and think that I'm lacking protein, as purees make me feel a bit sick so I've been mostly having vegetable soup.I've read the threads on here and quite fancy hummus and mackerel blended with l.f. philly cheese. Any more suggestions from you fabulous lot? Thank you!

I pureed eggs and bacon - tasted like scrambled eggs with bacon. Also the heinz big soups puree okay. Some people have suggested pureeing things seperate so veg etc. Tastes less icky then.

Thanks Yve, I've got some of the big soups on your recommendation so I'll let you know how I get on with those. Hummus was too garlicky when I tasted it a minute ago, but I think blended with Philadelphia it should be ok. What did you do with your bacon before pureeing it?

I always found adding a bit of cheese for flavour and bit more nutrients worked for me. Also liked tinned meals like chilli or chicken in white sauce and were really good to purée. And home roast meat, with lots of gravy was divine! Anything can be puréed really, begin with lots of liquid in the mix and as the days go by I'm sure the texture will get thicker.

Did you add Grated cheese or soft cheese like Philadelphia? It's the thought of puréed meat on its own I can't stomach- even though I'm a confirmed carnivore!

Hey Lisa-Em just had pureed beef in gravy (mum-in-law's roast from yesterday) with mashed swede and carrot. It was absolutely delicious!!!!! Give it a try!:eatdrink012:

Grated cheese, melts easily. Things like philly are better for making creamy sauces. My absolute fav was puréed chilli con carne with sour cream and a cheese. But other favs were Beef bologanise, Pasta- less lasagne. Roast pork and apple with thick gravy. Roast chicken with gravy. Tuna mayo and ketchup. Chicken curry. Skinless low fat sausage casserole. All yummy, and not distasteful puréed.

One of the purée recipes I use is. 1, sausage (dry fried) 1, Poached egg and 3tbsp of baked beans or bacon egg and tinned tomatoes and use the same quantities.

Tuna/ beans

Chicken/ cheese sauce

Beef/gravy

Eggs/beans

Smoked salmon/eggs

All purée great xxx

I used to buy M &S kids ready meals and puréed those. It was a god send! Just added gravy to them, or milk if it was something like fish pie. My favourite was supermarket bought cauliflower cheese puréed....deeeelish!

I also felt really weak, so when I spoke to the dietician early on they told me to increase the times I ate. So on purée I was eating 6 even 7 times a day to make sure I got enough in as the portions were so small. x

Hell yeah.... M&S kids meals are a godsend. 3 for a fiver. Half of one is a perfect portion so in effect, 6 meals for a fiver!!
Bargain :) x

Thanks for your suggestions everyone, I'll check out M&S tomorrow. I've just tried cottage pie with the mince blended but it hurt. It must have been too thick. I was really excited about it too as I felt like part of my family mealtime if that makes sense?

It may just be that red meat is a bit much just now. Try with turkey mince or pork mince instead. And it makes total sense. My rules were slightly different in that my purée and mash stage were together as a soft stage. I had one purée meal and then just has soft stuff like casseroles chewed a million times. But always always always follow your providers guidelines

Oo yes, add gravy so it's sloppy :)

Hi ya hon,
Not experienced but on same puree! lol I found tuna fish puree really well with tiny bit of spring water to get it right smooth then mixed with philly.

Same as you I got wobbly and very tired. This morning I made a strawberry protein shake. I used one scoop of protein whey stuff. (hubby drinks it after gym) I washed and pureed some fresh strawberries, I added one teacup of milk and 2 icecubes and blended it all in the processor. It was really nice. I drank about a quarter of it. so next time will make half as much. lol I added a little splenda to sweeten it.

This evening we are having slow cooked pork in hot sweet sauce . I browned pork after removing all visable fat, put in slow cooker. I used none stick pan so one spray of frylight worked. I then sliced finely an onion and put in pan then made the sauce with 30g cornflour good teaspoon of mustard powder, 600ml water, 2 tablespoons of each vinegar, lemon juice, Worcester sauce, and granulated splendar instead of brown sugar, 3 tablespoons of tomato puree. Mix cornflour and mustard first with little of the cold water then add the 2 table spoons of each of the seasoning. followed by tomato puree and rest of cold water. put whole lot in the big wok over the onions and bring to simmer/boil stir all the time. the sauce will change colour and look like sweet and sour and very thick which is fine as it waters down in the slow cooker. once thick continue to cook on hob for one min more then put in slow cooker covering all the pork. stick lid on. (this covers 6-8 pork lion steaks) Normally I would add two onions but cut back as onions can give gas. put slow cooker on high for 30 mins then switch to low for another 4 -5 hours. server with mash (as on puree) and puree green beans. will puree an oz of it and put into pots ready for more meals and hubby gets none puree! Feeds family and purees easily as the meat will be mega tender and the sauce is low fat and low sugar.

Hope that gives you some help if you don't have slow cooker. let me know you can make it in the oven but the meat will be slightly tougher than done in slow cooker.

Hugs
Kat
