Hypnotherapy

Has anyone had hypnotherapy pre op

I want to lose 5 stone before my op to make it safer for me but I'm haveing a hard time I just have no willpower at all at the moment and iv looked into it and the lady said its £120 for 2 sessions and that's all I would need and her testimonials are all good and even though iv never believed in all that I'm so desperate anythings worth a try

I did that a couple of years ago and what a waste of money it was. It was yet something else I paid out for to help me lose weight and failed with. Have you considered something like cambridge diet for a few months to get rid of your 5 stone pre surgery? The first week is hard on CD but then it does get a bit easier x

Iv done the Cambridge diet before and I couldn't do it the longest iv lasted was 2 weeks I literarily have NO will power

I don't know anyone who's had hypnotherapy I was going to give it a shot what can I lose apart from £120 and if it does work it will be well worth the money

Don't waste your money Kirsty. Save it for post op, so you can buy some new clothes xx

I've never known anyone whose had hypnotherapy for weight loss that its worked for. Several of my friends tried it years back and it didn't work for one of them x

That money may be better spent on CBT to help prepare you for post op if your struggling that badly

It's not that I can't resist food it's that I'm that Hungary it puts me in an awful mood and I end up going to bed at 5pm and I'm just sleeping my life away and the woman told me it will make me feel no hunger therefore I won't be in a bad mood
But iv tried cbt a few years ago and it was no good things like that just don't work for me

Are you worried about how you will cope afterwards?? The head feelings don't go away and you have to do a heck of a lot of work to overcome the urge to over eat. (it can be done, little and often, bypasses the bypass!!)

No I know I will be fine after surgery as I won't have the hunger pains... Surgery just can't come quick enough for me I'm looking at June time if not longer

Hypnotherapy certainly can and does work, but you have to work with it and not against it. It's not for everyone, and you have to commit and practice the techniques. It even has medical backing - for example, NICE recommend hypnotherapy for the treatment of IBS where conventional methods have been unsuccessful for a year.
You can cheat it by 'testing' just like you can weight loss surgery.
I've used it for several things and it has worked- as long as I put the effort it. I do wish I had tried it for weight loss.
You could try Paul McKenna's weight loss book to start and if that helps you go and have a personalised session with a hypnotherapist.
Good luck.
xx

I'm not being funny hun, but don't assume the surgery will fix your hunger. You've mentioned you are a similar size to me - my food issues are still there. I work my much smaller ass off to beat them and its just as hard as preop. I also had cbt and while it didn't work at the time the op gave me the headstart to work on my issues. But if your thinking that the op will cure your urge to eat I urge you read more - it really really doesn't. Only you can and the most successful people are those who start the process preop.

I still get hungry with the bypass!!!

I could still choose to eat the wrong stuff and I have to fight with myself on a daily basis to stay on track!! So far I am winning out, but I have used food as a reward for so long its been a hard slog.

The bonus is you can't eat as much but you do get hungry

That's a goal iv set myself, I just want to minimise the chance of me dying during surgery because that's a big worry of mine

Five stone is a lot of weight to try and lose in a relatively short space of time without the tool of weight loss surgery to assist you. You are putting a lot of pressure on yourself which probably ends up in you eating more anyway!

Why don't you move you focus away from "I need to lose x stone" to trying to practice healthier eating habits that you will need post weight loss surgery? The Paul McKenna book "I Can Make You Thin" could be quite useful and is less than £10 as opposed to the £120 for hynotherapy. You can practice things you will need such as mindful eating, eating more slowly, recognising true hunger over head hunger and you get a hypnotherapy style CD to listen to daily. This is what I am doing right now

Don't worry so much about setting yourself a weight loss target. If you were too high risk at your current weight then your team would have asked you to lose weight or would not operate :) x x
