i really dont like milk im on day two of it and im on 4 pints of milk a day and i just cant stomach it i feel sick when im drinking it and im trying to drink it all but i just cant if i dont drink it all will it affect surgery x

Why don't you speak to the dietician about trying another liver reduction diet? There are lots of different ones used by various hospitals.

I think there are also lots of posts on here as well about the different pre-op diets we've all done.

The diet can affect the outcome of your surgery, at the very least if your liver isn't small enough they may convert your surgery to open instead of key hole at the worse they could try and operate and close you back up without completing the surgery if your liver is too big.

There are lots of different diets I'm sure you'll find one to suit you.

Good luck x

i know the feeling, i to am having my op at luton and they are so strick with the milk diet, they dont give you any other options, but i have been only having 2 pints of milk and a slima cuppa soup of 50 cals or a weight watchers meal as long as it it under 350 cals and not much fat. what luton dont know wont hurt lol as this is only to lose the 5% body weight not the actual pre op diet. i have looked at lots of pre op diets, the way to shrink your liver is to stAY away from carbs and fat, look on bospa web site for liver shrinkage diet ,, why luton want us to do just milk diet to lose the 5% is crazy, i to hate bloody milk with a passion and i cant bare the taste of milk shake so im finding it hard ....

threads like this confuse me as i had my surgery through key hole but because i dont live in the uk (i had my surgery in cyprus by an american trained surgeon) i didnt have to do a liver shrinking diet. my surgeon had no problems and didnt even consider open surgery. its funny how different surgeons tell you to do things differently

Hey Charley do you like latte and if so do you think you could manage drinking 4 pints of it a day to use up all the milk, also as mentioned the crusha sugar free milk shake syrup is quite palatable (I used the raspberry).

When I done the 2 week pre op we had to have 4 small tins of ww soup and 4 yoghurts and 1 pint of milk a day, as well as the 2 litres of water. Maybe your team will be happy for you to try that one if you discuss it with them.

Yeah definitely give them a ring cos its bad enough being on a pre-op diet but if you hate milk it must be unbearable.
I really can't believe the differences in the pre-op diets!
Or the lengths of time different hospitals make you do them for. Its very strange x

I too hate milk so was able to do the Slimfast diet - 4 Slimfasts a day plus 1 oxo cube drink, multi vits and 1/2 pint of s/f jelly. My op was done privately in Harpenden but by the same team that do it at the L&D.

Cuppa xx

Hi Charley, it is a struggle I know I too am having my op at the same hospital as you. Which diet did you do to loose the 5%? Good luck with your op on the 13th I am there on the 14th to see Mr Whitelaw and Mrs Suri.

I hate milk too and managed 10 days on pre op slim fast diet existing on only 2 or 3 shakes a day just cos I couldn't get any more in. In the end I starting fainting and felt really ill all the time. My dietician switched me to a 1000kcal food diet that was very low in carbs. I did that for the next 2 weeks, felt much better and my liver was perfectly small for my op (plus I'd lost 2 stone!). Def speak to your team and see what they can do. There are definitely options :)

i am on day 6 of my pre op and i really cant handle the milk any more even the thought of it now makes me gag, i cant add anything to it as i hate milk shakes . and having to drink that oxo cube well this is like torture, im back at the hopspital tomorrow and im going to talk to them . as i dont think i can do another week. i have been doing this liquid diet for 6 weeks now . 5 weeks to lose my 5% and then not able to do the refeed diet as they wanted me on the liquid diet right away as they put my op forward to the 17th may instead of july .

Amazing how these diets vary - I'm not allowed milk or any milk products at all !

Bizarre...

If you are allowed sugar free jelly there is a way of making it with milk instead of water, not sure exactly how and it really tastes nice. The jelly has only about 10 calories per portion and no fat or carbs and at least that way you would be getting the calcium you need.

The other reason why you get these diets apart from shrinking the liver is to wean you off food and prepare you for the very restricted and soft diet you will be needing to have in the immediate couple of weeks post-surgery.

im looking forward to being able to eat something more than milk next week even if it is liquid still and small amounts .
U can have milky jelly but its really sweet and i dont like it silly diabetic me lol.
Tray i still might be in hospital when u come in if i am say hi xx
