Injections?

Keep seeing people talking about injections after surgery. What are these? Does everyone have to have them and if so do I have to do them myself?
Don't feel prepared for this at all!

Morning Su2ie
the injections are called CLEXANE its to prevent blood clots after surgery its taken (in my case)for 14 days once a day and you do it yourself
I was dreading this part more than anything but its so easy! it really doesn't hurt and you can see how its done on you tube I understand that everyone has to do it or if you want you could ask a trusted family member to do it for you its done around the tummy area but not near the belly button
like I said look it up on you tube

Thanks los. I must admit it comes as a bit of a surprise because as I said nobody has mentioned it! I have given myself injections before but had like a tube that was loaded up then you just press s button, is it the same kind of thing? If it is I can cope with that I think :)

I was the same no one told me about it either it was a friend who informed me but said it was easy
it comes pre loaded and you inject yourself the same way you get jabs at your G.P or practice nurse

Hey Susie! I was only told about the injections as i saw it here on the forums and asked about it at one of my appointments. The ones i had were small, pre-filled syringes and the needles are tiny and as i started having them at the hospital, the nurse showed me how to do it. Doesn't hurt at all so if someone as weirded out by needles as me managed to do it, anyone can lol. I had them 2 days and the hospital and 5 at home so had to do it a total of 7 days. Mine were called Fragmin. Hope this helps!

my wife had her bypass op on Saturday and was discharged from hospital yesterday. they never gave her anything to inject herself with and said she don't need it? now i am beginning to worry she should of been given this. also all the pills they gave her to take home with her are in pill form.

I didn't have to do any after my op. I had one to do at home the night before surgery and had one each day I was in hospital. None to bring home though.

Everywhere is different. Each surgeon has different methods for each step of the process.

My medication was also in tablet form too.

Glad yours are, i dreaded it...in fact i would say those injections were more painful than my wounds and thats no joke..and i ended up with shocking bruises! Anyway its all behind me now!!

Mine was fragmin injections. I had to do it 7 days to prevent clots. But not everyone has to do it. They were fine. Some of them Stang a bit for maybe a min after injecting.. But it was easy to do yourself. I have never injected myself or anyone in my life before that. If you have to do them, make sure nurse shows you/lets you do it while at the hospital under her whatch, just to make sure you will do them correctly.

So do all NHS patients have to inject themselves after bypass etc? I gave been told Now Im frightened!

I was a private patient nurse said I can do them in leg arm or belly. We've all been brave enough to go through the surgery so lets continue the bravery and be able to inject ourselves :)

Sent from my iPad using WLSurgery

Mine was private and I have 3 weeks worth.

The needle bit is absolutely Ok - the thing is so fine it really doesn't hurt! But as Karina says, they do sting afterwards.

Nhs here and I had CLEXHANE and the :censored: stockings for six weeks.
They syringe come preloaded and yes they can nip after the injection but I didn't find the actual injection itself all that painful in all honesty. I was however so glad to see the back of em and the little purple bruises they left me with. Don't worry hun it's not that bad and the op is well worth the extra hassle ;)
