my dreams feel like they have crashed and burnt

Laura b

2011 a new begginning
 well as the title says i feel like my dreams have crashed and burnt and this op is never ever gonna happen, ok i aint been waiting long on the referal sides of things but i have been waiting my whole life to be thin been on lots and lots of diets some that have worked some that hasnt but the weight keeps finding me again
well some of u's may know i got refered on the 31st august for wls, i have been refered b4 and was under dr therie at birmingham heartlands hospital at the weight management centre which is when i first heard about weight loss surgery and the success of it but back then i said that i want to do it by myself (well with there help) i managed to lose 5 stone with that and weight watchers which didnt stay off long in a month i nearly put on a stone and felt to shammed to go bk to the weight managment clinic  then since then iv had a baby and all my weight plus more has gone on
well ive been waiting for my letter from the team and it arrived today saying unfortunatly they couldnt help me at this stage as ive got to be refered bk to dr therie at the weight management clinic then it b up to him wat he thinks if he thinks i should go bk on a weight management course for 6 months and see how i get on or if he will refer me to the surgeons, is this how it normally happens?? i suppose i was wishfully thinking that i would get a letter to say have ur surgery today (although deep down i knew that it dont work like thats) i know that im on the way to where i want to be heading wls but i feel its a million miles away and thats if i get it!! anyone esle been under birmingham heartlands hospital and hve had to go on this journey?? i wonder what dr therie will say? the letter just sounds so dissapointing saying things like 'unfortunatly' like its never gonna happen!!
ive spoke to the weight management team who said that an appointment will be sent shortly, i know i aint been waiting long not as long as some but my gp filled my head with information that deffinetly does not match what im hearing in the letter :sigh::(:wave_cry:

Sorry cant help as I went private, but I am sending you bigs hugs xxxxxx

Sorry hun Im pre-op Manchester pct so cant really help with any advice but I just wanted to send you a massive (HUG) and say dont give up.....It will happen if you keep fighting, it is worth it :D X

Oh Laura, I'm so very sorry this has happened and you must feel gutted right now.
But your dreams aren't dead sweety; there's just a delay on them. Dr Theiry may well decide you can be referred straight on; maybe it's up to you to persuade him?
Please don't give up. You will get there honey.
sending humoungous hugs. Charis xxxx

thanks so much for ur post, im so hoping that dr theiry says i can but put straight forwards cus on the letter it says something about not fitting the criteria for the pct??? and that to get an op i would have to go on a programme or have been on a programme for at least 6 months but the thing is i have?? but this was about 2 yrs ago do u think this will count when i see dr theiry? or will he make me do it again? he was on about refering me to surgeons b4 but i was too scared

Honey it's hard to say, but he may well refer you on as he wanted to do that before. BUT you might have to do some hoop-jumping to fit the criteria and get the funding. I hope not though.
As I say, maybe it's up to you to persuade him. Make a list of everything you've tried and why you think WLS is the best option for when you see him.
Whatever happens, keep fighting and don't give up! Vron fought and won and you can too!

Hi Laura, sorry to hear about the delay regarding your referral. Have you made an appointment to see your GP for your new referral? Hopefully you won't have to do the programme again (I didn't, but am Trafford PCT).

Rebirth

Hi Laura, I would go back to your GP and ask him to write to them saying you ahve already done the weight management course. You could also ring PALS whom I have found really supportive. Good luck and don't let this go easily and without a fight.

Hugs Linski xxx

Oh Laura, hugs hunny. I can understand you are disappointed, but they are not saying no. They are just saying that its got to come from Mr Taheri.

I would chase up an appointment with him if you can, and they will still have your hospital file showing how successful you were, so they might be able to use that to tick the box for the PCT.

Dont give up hope yet. The average waiting time seems to be about 12 months, and I know your GP led you to believe you would be done sooner, but unfortunately the GP's dont always get it right.

Keep your pecker up! My mom has been referred to heartlands as well now, so she will be in the system just behind you x

Laura don't get downheartened. When your appt for weight management comes go there and tell them all about how you did the course 2 yrs ago and was determined to go it alone and was successful, but like all of us you are only human and put it all back on again. It's hard enough to lose weight but then to have to maintain is even harder...

Keep your spirit up girl, i'm sure you will go to the ball xx

thanks hun yea ive called my gp whos faxed the referal and also i spoke to the weight management team who have recieved the referal from the dr by fax and also the surgeon dr super had sent a referal apparently he said that they dont except referals from the gp that it has to be someone who specialises in weight management so thats why they refered me bk, i suppose its not as bad as i thought just disheartening when they use words like unfortunatly xx

Hiya hun! dont be upset! youll get there...... a few months extra wait is nothing compared to the rest of your life fat! it will fly by - i was disheartened when they didnt put me straight on the list 3 months ago but ill tell ya the time has flown by! like people say... they throw hoops at you to make sure your ready for the surgery just jump through them the best you can and youl get there! big hugs to you xxxxxxx dont worry hun xxxx

hiya sam this is wat the letter said that they sent to me but was also sent to the gp
you have recently written to me regarding the above patients weight problem. unfortunately in accordance with the NICE criteria i am only able to accept referrals from specialists in obesity and patients must first have attended a medical obesity clinic and tried no surgical interventions first. as such, i have passed your letter on to dr s taheri, who is the consultant who runs the medical weight management clinic here at birmingham heartlands hospital who should be able to see your patient regarding medical therapy of their obesity
yours sincerly dr p super

what do u think of it??
ive spoke to the weight management depatment who said for me to fone my gp and ask them to resend the referal by fax so they can deal with it faster which i did do and gp said they was faxing it over then, i called bk and they said they had recieved it and also had recieved a refera from dr super i just hope this is a common practice and its not just me that has to go this route to get my op, i spoke to a dietician who said that it would be dr thieri decision if he wants me to do a programme aagain or just refer me for surgery, i done the programme b4 and also was put on 3 differant types of tablets one didnt agree with me one wasnt working for me and one made my blood pressure go up and dr theiri was the one who tried all them with me i hope he remembers or has notes from me b4 and just refers me, the weight management have told me to call monday they will have an appointment ready for me so thats possitive i suppose, hope aunty lol is ok send her my love and maybe we will have our ops the same time :D ul have to come with us both xxxx

Hiya

My gut feeling is that Mr Taheri will refer you straight for surgery as you have been through his weight loss clinic before, but its up to him really hun. You can try to persuade him that you are ready for surgery, and remind him that he was going to refer you before you fell pregnant with Zane.

However, don't lose heart if they do make you go through weight management again. If it gets you to where you want to be then its worth it, and you mentioned trying to lose weight before surgery anyway - so it may as well be under medical supervision rather than going it alone.

Hopefully now they have your referral at Mr Taheri's clinic you will get an appointment through soon.

thanks sam i hope so, but like u say if not them i do wanna lose weight and will try really hard with the help from dr theiri's team but finger crossed he will refer me and in the mean time ill go on a diet and try and get as much off b4 the op, ive gotta call monday they said they will have an appointment date xx

hi ang i was hoping u would see this post thanks for commenting, im 100% comin to the meeting on saturday where about is it in solihull, im hoping he does remember me and i remember he was a very nice caring person i always felt great after seeing him even more so than the dietician i hope he understands my reasons for wanting surgery this time that its maintaining it thats the problem thanks again xxx

My journey has been a little different to yours. It's good to see that they have all acted so quickly. I was referred for surgery by the endocronologist after attending an appointment that I thought was for weight management. I'd already seen a dietician for over a year etc, so didn't need to attend the wm clinic. Hopefully, that might happen to you but all PCTs are different.

Have you looked at the BOSPA site for more info about the various bariatric procedures.
