New to forum...GP made referral for me today

Hello all,

I found this sight tonight. I've been reading the threads and its good to see there seems to be lots of support on here. My GP says he is writing a letter today to a specialist in my local area with reference to me having a gastric band. I'm not familar with the process so any clues would be welcome. Is there anyone from the S-O-T area? look forward to your replies.

Hi Vicki - do you know if you're under Stoke PCT or North Staffordshire? North Staffordshire covers the areas previously covered by Newcastle PCT and Staffordshire Moorlands PCT, Stoke covers what was North Stoke and South Stoke PCT. I'm under North Staffordshire so know alot about their procedures.

Thanks for your reply. I think I'm Stoke PCT. Where were you referred to? my GP mentioned a referral to a consultant at the university hospital then on to somewhere in Birmingham but to be honest he wasn't all that clear.

Not sure where it is but its early days I suppose. As I mentioned my GP mentioned Birmingham. It could be walsall because my Gp wasnt all that clear to be honest.

Hiya and welcome.. Lot's of people from your area .. Just check who the referral has gone too! Mr Khan at Walsall or Mr Super At heartlands... I say this because Mr Super is mostly fitting bands and its HIS choice not the patients! Mr Khan prefers the bypass but will fit bands if the patient can display they fit the criteria . But at least there is the choice!!!

Under the patient choice you have the right to choose who you be referred too... It's your choice but personally I'd want to go to a surgeon is offering more than one surgery choice!

Your right I would prefer a choice...not sure who its going to, I should have asked more questions really, hindsight eh! Will post when I find out more information. My friends are trying to talk me out of it because they are worried it will go wrong...was anyone you knew against it?

Hi there

You'll be about the same time as me i would think, I got refered by my GP on 6th feb 09, got my app to go to hosp which is on 6th March 09 (friday coming) so we should be pretty close with our op dates.

Find out what hospital and do you know if you want bypass or band yet???
