the whole operating thing is very diff to when my fiancée was there too.
don't bother bringing anyone to the hospital with you pre op...
they take you straight upstairs at 7.30 and no one is allowed to come up with you...
They are allowed to come and see you on the ward after but not whilst you are waiting..
my poor fella had to sit downstairs till I was discharged (iwas a day case for band removal) at 5pm...
was a long day for him as no point going home as we live 3hrs from St Marys ...

Lovely to hear from someone who's been on the same boat at the same hospital, I haven't even thought about taking someone with me! Suppose I don't need to now lol

I was on that same boat at the same hospital too. Pissed my Mum off big time. I told her not to come, she showed up, nurse sent her home. It was great....

I don't live in London and I'm so very grateful to be under their team but to wait all day alone is very scarey for some..

There was a young girl waiting to have a bypass and you could see she was very nervous .. She could have done with her friend being allowed to sit with her..

My fiancé would not have minded at all if someone had told us at my appointment prior to surgery or even in the little pack they send with your operation date ...cos he would have bought my son and gone off for a spot of sightseeing and lunch to pas the time...
Thank goodness for mobile phones as we kept in touch via text etc or he would not have known if I had my surgery etc

So Helen I would defo take plenty to read in case you are an afternoon surgery... Also there are 4 seats when you get into the little pre op area ward upstairs ... Two are comfy recliners so try and bag one of them if you can or you will be quite uncomfortable if you have a long wait...

I got an appointment to see the nurse today for the 3rd June but had to cancel as I am going back to Spain for a couple.of weeks... No one told me to expect that appointment or u wouldn't have booked flights ..

Did you both see the nurse?? Helen/Dave xx

I only saw the nurse at my preop. Gave me a prep talk and a breathing machine, lovely woman. Made me feel relaxed and normal (not a fatty)

Haven't had an appointment with just a nurse though xx

I saw the specialist nurse 10 days after surgery; my next appointment is July 31st.

I have a feeling that's what my apt with the nurse was all about,,,, post op wound check probably

Did tell them I lived three hours away and was given the snips to have the clips taken out

Actually just took them out myself in the end ,, all the incisions were healed and looked fine once the clips were gone so I'm not fussed about going to see my GP

I'm now counting the days till the 17th July so I can get things moving

Helen I'd just take lots to read and some chap stick for dry lips... And a clean pair of Jin jams..toiletries .

Think ya won't need much else

Message me once ya have a date wont ya xxx

Hi im from Lincolnshire i have no other health problems and my bmi was just under 50 but my doctor referred me based on me basically begging and i wrote her pretty much an essay on why i wanted it and listed every which way i had ever tried to lose weight since my teens. She was great and very understanding and referred me straight away. I have heard though some doctors arent quite as helpful. Keep pushing x
