I really love pasta, would i be okay trying it say 150g of cooked pasta.... had the bypass sept 5th.....

sorry to be a pain to you all

I've heard conflicting things about pasta. My friend who had her bypass in January was told she couldn't eat things like bread and pasta as they swell in the stomach. When I mentioned it to the dietician she said it would be fine, just chop it up very small.

I noticed in Tescos that they do some which is really tiny (like miniature bows). I love pasta and am really hoping I can still have it after my op.

Will be watching this thread with interest to see how others have got on with it.

i just get so mixed up, so does pasta still swell after it has been cooked!!!! soz im a real blonde head... i give them a bad name... all joking apart would like to know if others have tried it xxx

Hi
I used to love pasta pre-op but tried some for the first time a few weeks ago and really didn't like it for some reason. I really don't know why, I cooked it well but it just didn't taste good and felt very heavy in my stomach - even after only 2-3 pieces so that's another thing that goes on teh list for things I have gone off!! Used to love hoummos pre-op - can't stand it now!! :(

I only had my op on 8th november but yesterday I had some mushroom filled pasta which I cooked and then blended a touch with a sauce and took my time to eat it it was devine....I think its trial and error and see how you go, just remember eat slow and chew chew chew....xx

i have found i cant drink coffee any more.... think its the milk in it....roughly how much did u have of the pasta charliegirl ? xxx

Sometimes i can eat pasta, if it's cooked well enough, but the most important thing i have to do is chew it poperly and eat slowly, otherwise i get a blockage. Same with bread. Have thrown up a few times simply because i haven't chewed well enough or eaten slowly enough.

approx 50grams it made a fair bit and I took ages to eat it I find eating with a teaspoon reminds my not to fill my mouth, lord knows what they will think when I go back to work....it was tasty though and as its quite soft chewed up a treat...xx

I am starting to wonder what bread tastes like just now I have not had it for so long, I really miss a piece of toast and a cup of tea but as I dont like tea anymore (cant believe I am saying that) there does not seem much point in the toast .lol...xx

I can have pasta no probs. Not good at weights but I tend to only have a couple of bits, as my main focus in a meal is the protein.

i tried toast never again.... pain was to horrid...i have been eaating kiddies meals from tescos lol my daughter finds it funny.... but aleast im not throwing so much away.... dumped on low fat custard and i love it..... have not tried much soild fruit yet.

got told to eat crackers yummy.

i am nearly 6 months post bypass and i really struggle with pasta can't manage alot at all as it swells in your tummy.

i love pasta but very rarely eat it now as i don't feel good after it. it's one of the few things i can't eat! x

I never used to have it too often before surgery as I would get a pain under my ribs on the right side if I ate it more than say once every two weeks. I have to say the stuff I had yesterday was very very soft and mushed up and then chewed and I will be having that again.....I long to eat a cherry tomato as well.....I wont because of the skin but I used to buy punnets of them or them on the vine and eat them like sweets....but hey ho not to worry one day...xx

Had bypass mid September. I think as everyone is so different you just need to give it a try. I found now I can eat anything (don't eat any processed food, anything with sugar or high in fat. I find white bread easier to digest than brown. A few pieces of pasta are fine for me I sometimes use ASDA fresh ravioli which has various fillings and I make my own sauce I usually have about four pieces. I think a mistake many of us makes is to eat something too fast and don't chew properly.
