Period woes and PCOS.

I had my surgery in February last year, and since April I've had regular periods, 28-34 days each month. I have felt so encouraged that my fertility was improving, and that my PCOS symptoms were lessening. Well this month its gone to pot I'm now on day 38, with no sign its on its way other than feeling in a constant state of PMS. I feel like crap, and really upset that I've stopped working. Its made worse by the the fact that Chichester have just given us the go ahead to start trying. I just dont know what to do! Any similar experiences?

There's no chance that you no longer need to try, I take it lovely?

Sadly no, 5 pregnancy tests and a blood test say no. I'm at a loss.

......well done on your losses.....:)
Are u currently trying for a baby???x

Thank you. No, we agreed to start at the end of next month.

Sorry to jump on your thread, I have pcos too and we are desperate for a baby. This is why is had my band my periods are back too and I bought a ovulation kit and I'm ovulating.

I have a maybe stupid question. Could u already be pregnant?

Don't feel dis heartened that it's 38 days so many other factors affect it. Stress, worry or just a life style change. I wish you all the luck in the world and hope your dream comes true very soon xx

Well its very normal hon to have the odd missed period, even for women who are very regular. If you're really worried can you ask your GP or your team?

I hope that's all it is. Its made worse because im very emotional because ive been having pms symptoms for 2 weeks and its really doing my head in now.

Ive been to see my endocrinologist today, and on the whole it was positive - great weight loss etc etc. But he reminded me that PCOS can't be cured. The symptoms can go and it can feel like its gone, but its still there. Which really upset me. Then he started talking fertility treatment, and my eligibility. My bmi is still high, and I still have so far to go. My husband was upset, it was horrible. I guess he hoped we would be told that it will all be ok now, and that we could have a family.
Just got myself so tired.

Its difficult for me to say as I was able to conceive while heavy, despite my PCOS. What I would say is that my hormones have become normal. Although my GP expects that I still have the cysts, the rest is gone. I've noticed a difference in body hair and regrowth is becoming sparser. I've just done my first session of IPL and noticed a difference today.

I think ultimately you've got to remember so much can affect our hormones, such as stress, weight loss even the medication we're on. Don't give up hope love.

It's really horrible. I don't have PCOS as far as I know but I do have a blocked tube, very low progesterone and high oestrogen. We've been trying almost 10 years now. Don't give up hope. As soon as my bmi hits 30 I'm off to bang on the door of the fertility clinic!! Xx

I had erratic periods for ages following my coil removal. They settled down but would occasionally miss or be out of sink. After trying to become pregnant for ages I bought a digital clear blue ovulation monitor. I used it for four cycles, during which we were told we had very little chance of having a baby due to hubby's issues. We were coming to terms with this kinda stopped obsessing about it all. A month later we found out I'd fallen pregnant. We have a healthy amazing 10 month bubba!

I think the monitor helped me :)

We went to Midland Fertility with 9 grand in my handbag. We made an appointment (for £495) to see the top doctor. We didn't even get past reception. We saw the nurse the doctor never even left her office. She told me I was far too over weight and that our case was fairy easy and they like more complex cases. She said if you were gay and needed donor sperm we could probably be more flexible!! We came out heartbroken, my hubby couldn't drive for 15 mins we had to sit in the car and compose ourselves.
So now ive lost some weight we are ready to start again. To be honest we are dreading it, its so mentally exhausting.
Stay strong and hold on to each other xx

I can't share your experiences but I hope they manage to help you all that are so desperate for babies...the more weight you lose the better the chances of treatment being agreed or hopefully natural occurrence :) take care ladies x

Im much better now. Period finally arrived yesterday, and beginning to feel human again. I'm still fairly upset after my specialists appointment, but im awaiting test results to give us a better picture.

Hi

Ask your endrocronologist about metformin - I have PCOS and fell pregnant with metformin. He prescribed this to me and it kick started everything 6 years ago when I had my youngest son. And buy an ovulation kit, makes a massive difference. Best of luck. I have lost nearly 9 stone since referral and have come off the pill, thinking everything would be fixed however my facial hair has come back.

I was on metformin for a year pre op, unfortunately it made no difference. He doesn't think it will do much good post op, except for making me ill. My friend has given my an ovulation kit, so will see how I get on.
But we have had some bad news, my husband is on an experimental drug for severe spondylosis, its done wonders for his libido, but we've just found out it lowers the sperm count. Now he's so down, he says there is no point in even trying.

So sorry to hear about that. It sounds like one obstacle after another! Good luck. Xxxx
