I have been having trouble keeping much down this week. It has been getting better but can only sip very small amounts of water less than 1/2 a litre a day, had very little purée as it feels uncomfortable. My dietitian keeps saying I am eating and drinking too fast. I can't drink or eat any slower. 2 teaspoons of low fat custard in 30 minutes! Not sure how to get it any slower! I'm going to A & E tomorrow if I can't get more water down today as I need to be hydrated. It feels like I have indigestion as soon as I have anything. Has anyone else had this. Don't know what to do feel very fed up :(

hey jinja,

am i right in thinking youve had a bypass?

i know some providers suggest going back to liquids for a couple of days if you start having troubles.

As a sleever i take a Omeprazole (Proton Pump Inhibitor) to stop acid and reflux in the stomach. Do bypassers take something like that?

Think going to A&E is sensible if youre becoming dehydrated - hope it gets sorted!

please go and get sorted - this is most definitely not right at all.....

Hope you feel better soon xxx

I agree with Caz, I know you've already done the step back to liquids. It sounds like you need a stretch or atleast a bariatric specialist checking you out. Ring your provider and tell them you want to be seen today as an emergency. If they refuse then go to a&e.

Thanks guys. I tried a little soup very slowly and it feels like it's stuck. 1/2 teaspoon full. am fed up of telling the dietitian that I am not eating too fast. Will get to A&E and see what they say xx

Out of hospital now. The sip test was ok. No leaks but the tube is very tight. The liquid is going down very slowly. My care team has said to stay on the liquids for another week then attempt purée again. I was really dehydrated so the fluids in the hospital helped to get me back to normal. Has anyone else had a really tight tube or surgery with El Hassani and the same problem?

That's a great result jinjanut and i think going to a&e was defo the right thing to do. good luck for the future x

Thank you Sarah have lost 5.5 stone now in 8 weeks. What happens when you reach your goal. I have 2 more stone to lose maybe 3 at a stretch? Xx

Jinja if that's all you have left to go then you need to really work on increasing your calorie and carb intake to try and slow it down, as you risk overshooting the mark and making yourself ill. If in another couple of weeks you are still losing more than 3-4lbs a week ask your GP for a high cal low sugar supplement drink to try to help slow it down, and have these as snacks, not meal replacements.

I have an appointment with my surgeon as soon I get back from my holiday. Have been sipping water with a little salt as instructed by the doctor here to stop me getting too dehydrated. I am surviving on anti sickness tablets and complan because I can not keep any food down at all. I will chat to Mr El Hussani as soon as I can as my own doctor is quite worried also. Xxx

Massive hugs then lovely x
