Hi guys

I have always believed that liquid diets can and do play a good role in WLS...beneficial to those of us that are pre-op and those of you who need liquid or sloppy foods with good nutrition.

I thought this might interest some of you...It's not just the lipotrim product but some of the info it gives..

Hope it helps...

Compared to the Cambridge Diet they taste Disgusting. I'm not sure if they have added any new flavours but they only use to have 4.

not tried either but have been on the Celeb Slim one from the pharmacy, those shakes are lush ! Even the strawberry ones and I dislike anything strawberry lol:p

I did Lipotrim for 15wks 3yrs ago at Hope Hospital and lost 7 Stone BUT guess what happens after.

I know that Lighter Life and Cambridge come right out of the same factory...but Cambridge have lots of variety...I like most of them.

Elffie I have heard of celebrity slim but didn't realise that this was a liquid diet.

I started Cambridge on Monday...but to be honest I think I should wait till Friday when I have my appointment........so scared that if they weigh me on Friday and then apply to PCT I'll get refused...Terrible isn't it when your scared to lose the weight.

Also I remember the surgeon saying something about not dieting too hard as this is bad for the 'joins'...I don't really understand this and hope someone can shed some light on it...my thoughts were that if you diet badly it will be harder to heal....(???)

Do I get a prize for guessing the correct answer?

The losing weight is the easy....it's the keeping it off forever that is dang nigh impossible.

ps: that's a beautiful sign you have as an avatar IRJ....

hi
those liquid diet are OK but u cant live on them for ever i lost 7.5 stone on slim fast 5 years ago and guess what yep i failed to keep it off its back now and brought some of its mates with it so i ended up losing weight and money and now i,m heavy than before, this is were the learning to live with new eating habits comes in

SC it depends what you class as a liquid diet. Celeb Slim is a shake you make with water rather than milk, which is prob why I prefer it, it doesnt go get thicker n thicker like wallpaper paste...:)

The idea is you have 2 shakes and a balanced meal a day, with either fruit or one half of the celeb bars as a snack. BTW The celeb snack bars are like doorsteps,so half of one is a lot to eat. There are also soups you can have instead of one of the shakes but I didnt like them.
I was buying the mix pack which has a variety of flavours, the starter pack has 2 soups in it too, thats how I found out they taste like gritty washing water lol:sigh:

Hi snow i can relate 100% to how ur feeling, i have lost 31 lbs myself in the last 9/10 weeks and now i have to slow down my losses to a pound a week till my consultant apply for funding as i 2 am scared it will affect my application, its a terrible way to have to look at things but unfortunately its a reality.
Which hospital are u under, i am at the Whit.

Back to the chat bout shakes lol, i cant abide the lipotrim shakes they make me heave the Cd ones are the best, i think when i am on liquids after my byass i think i will stock up on the Avidlite shakes which are so much cheaper, lots of variety and taste ok or there are so many low carb high protein shakes around on the low carb sites so lots to chose from.

Take care and chat soon xxx

Your question "Also I remember the surgeon saying something about not dieting too hard as this is bad for the 'joins'...I don't really understand this and hope someone can shed some light on it...my thoughts were that if you diet badly it will be harder to heal....(???)" seems to have got lost.

I would say it probably is for exactly the reason you gave - you need (according to my surgeon who doesn't LET you do a pre-op diet!) to be in optimal nutritional health at the time of the op. Plus, the older you are (and you're younger than me I think, but not a spring chicken?) the more fragile your tissues become (again, according to my surgeon) which makes them more difficult to suture and more prone to tearing post-op if you do anything you shouldn't. It's funny isn't it - you look in the mirror and see the signs of ageing on your skin and external body, but don't think that the self-same thing is happening on the inside!

Personally I never have believed in these LC liquid "diets" - of course they work, but any way in which you only took 500-800 calories in a day would work. They are just another part of the vast slimming industry which makes money out of the desperate. If you really want to do a liquid diet, one I was told years ago by an obesity specialist was to drink 3 pints of full cream milk a day which (I think) is about 1000 cals and contains all the nutrients you need except iron (I think). Of course it helps if you like milk, but it's by far and away the cheapest and most easily available liquid diet. Good luck!
