I do have complete renal failure. Was dashed into local hosp Monday pm but blue lighted to specialist renal unit in Hull on weds in middle of night.

Have less than 5% kidney function bilaterally, but other than high potassium and a few immuno abnormalities, they're stumped. I'm on iv steroids all weekend as need kidney biopsies but had to cancel twice as BP sky high. On 2 antihypertensives now and Its lowering so hoping for biopsies 0930 Monday :) that should tell them what exactly It is, why It happened and If Its reversible. They're thinking not,at moment, but I'm a positive thinker and ready to face anything. The worst part is waiting!

Sorry abandoning everyone so much. Been ill for nigh on 6 weeks and internet on phone annoying! Can't wait to read up on you all and hope everyone is well and happy. Lots of love xxx

What a horrible tragic thing for you to have to deal with. I hope it isn't something you have had to deal with on your own and that you have somebody with you caring for you. You have been so so poorly, you must be washed out. My thoughts are with you and I wish you loads of strength to deal with getting better and love to help you get over this massive shock. At least now they really do know why you have been feeling so ill.
Take care and please even though the posting from the phone is infuriating let us know how you are doing.

Hi Dell
I had acute renal failure in 2001 and was blue lighted to hosp and had dialysis for two weeks and was taking steroids for 3 months etc. I was told the potassium levels in my blood was so high, I was 30 mins away from a fatal heart attack. I too had a biopsy and it was found to be caused by something called TINU syndrome (tubulo interstitial nephritis/uveitis). My doctors couldn't figure out why my kidneys had failed until a top specialist looked at my file. A few months later my eyes became incredibly inflamed and I almost lost my sight, again this was the syndrome causing it (it's the 'uveitis' part of the acronym). I eventually got better and have full kidney function and my sight is ok apart from a high number of 'floaters'.

It was an incredibly unpleasant experience and I was incredibly frightened for most of the time and after my health improved I still had flashbacks but they improved over time.

TINU syndrome is known to strike without warning and renal failure is usually caused by severe inflammation of the kidneys. I was also told it usually strikes young women more often than men etc. it's worth looking it up if you can and might give your docs an idea as my renal doc had never come across it before.

I understand what you're going through and hope your outcome is as good as mine was. I hope you feel better soon. X

Jeez Dell this made me sad. I hope you get to the bottom ofthis soon and that they can make you better real soon. Hugs and prayers sent honey xxx

I've had both interstitial nephritis and a couple of bouts of uveitis and iritis, but mine were caused by lupus (SLE). Mine was caught early enough to be treated with high dose steroids for just under a year but I was 13 at the time.
