Shaving my head.......

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of shaving my head. My hair is falling a lot and i haven't had the surgery yet. Is this a good idea? I already did cut my hair short in june last year.
I have very light hair at the top of my head and it seems like i'm going bald. :sigh::sigh::sigh:

I have very itchy and severe scaly scalp from last few years and tried everything but not getting any cure. i read that it might happen for hormones.
I am too upset and want long hair. will it grow back thick if i shave it? I am scared that it might not grow back at all :(

What should i do? please Help eeeekk

It's up to you Farzu...

I know a friend of my daughters that did this for a similar reason and her hair grew back better than before... but I don't think anyone can decide apart from you, it's your choice Angel and explore how you feel....or may feel in the early days after doing this... it's difficult I know...

How about a really cropped short cut and style and see how you manage from there?

Love and hugs Precious xxx

Thanks Bev, I have very short hair right now. around 2 inch. Just wanted to know if anyone has done it before. I heard that after shaving the hair grows back thicker. XX

sorry you feel so stressed about it hun....it must be really upsetting for you. Have you had any advise from your hairdresser????

Thanks Sarah, when i went to cut my hair short last time the hairdresser couldn't find any way or style to cover up the front part where the hair is too thin and the scalp can be seen.

would it be a good idea to do it before the surgery or should i wait till i have the surgery done first?

Farzu, I'd keep it as short as possible and try and use massage etc to stimulate new growth.

The person I knew certainly did have good re growth, but she was upset about going out for weeks after shaving her head... it's such an individual thing Angel... I'm wishing you to feel good about whatever you decide.

Love and hugs xxx

Does the back grow quite long??? couldn't you wear a wide alice band at the front to cover the thinning area?? and have a little bob at the back. Not sure that i helping really ...sorry x

I personally would not shave your hair off. If you do this you might irritate your already itchy scalp. It is a good idea to do what sarah said and wear something pretty like an alice band or ribbon (modern of course) to hid the bald bit at the front.
There are two fab products out there for you to take before and after your surgery to promote healthy hair and sometimes even reduce hair loss.
I will have a look what they are called when I go downstairs and post the names for you later. There is even the name of something or other that my surgeon has recommended to my GP to promote healthy hair post op.
I cant get the info now sorry, but will do next time I come to my computer.
Please don't shave it, I honestly think it would be a big mistake and make you very unhappy.

Omg!!!! No way don't shave your head you ve all ready said you want long hair, imagine if it doesn't grow back?!? Or not as much as you had, I'd take a trip to docs get bloods done in your hormones etc and see what's causing it x

Before doing anything that drastic why don't you book an appointment with a tricologist (hair and scalp specialist to find out what is going on with your scalp if this has been happening before your weightloss. This is something you must decide for yourself I think x

Oh Thanks Cherry. i was thinking that it might not grow back. i have been to docs for my scalp but they all gave me Polytar shampoo. which didn't help at all. My hubby is using Alpacin from last week and i bought another shampoo called Oilatum.

should i tell my doc about hormones?

Here we are........
I have used this in the past and swear by it..... Perfectil plus, from chemists and supermarkets. It isn't cheap but it worked for me when I was losing hair on the cambridge diet.
Tesco Hair, skin, nails less expensive but you need more.

I have been told that I can ask my doctor for, or get from the chemist Selenium + (200mg) twice a day for 6 months and/or Zinc (solvazinc 125mg) disolved in water 3 times a day. This is if there is a significant loss of hair AFTER weight loss surgery.
Hope this helps in some way.
I am just passing on information and not recommending you take any of the above. I am only a layperson.

Farzu I think you should ask to see a dematologist. Polytar shampoo and Alpecin are very simple products to help with dandruff and itchy scalp. There are much better products out there available on prescription.
But you probably need to see a specialist to work out exactly what's going on.

Personally I think shaving your head would be a mistake and you'd regret it.

Have you had a diagnosis??

I wouldnt shave it either...just in case!

But i would get a wig....actually ive got 2 and wear them regular for when i feel like a change.
