bit upset, well ok very upset. just got back from the doctors needed some more tablets and was seing her for an update after i wasnt well a few wks ago.shes not really my dr as such but one at the practice.
she asked about the op and i said i was waiting for app with phsch, dietician and anaesthist. she then said she was worried about me recovering afterwards. i said i had a friend to help me and my brother and also that if i could get through what i have in the last year the op wont be a prob. i also explained what i want to be able to achieve after op. she said that i had put her mind at rest that i can cope. she also mentioned that they might contact her and ask about my previous history. i have been on anti depressants a while and did see phschiatrist in the past. she said shed never say i shouldnt have it but wouldnt lie about my past history. surgeon is in contact with my usual dr who said i wouldnt have a prob when i see phschcologist but now im so worried

mandy xx

Hi Mandy,

I'm new here and only just started my pre-op stuff......I told my consultant that I'm on anti-depressants - have been on and off for last 10 years. We talked about the chicken and egg effect of what came first the weight problem or the depression - he didn't really seem too concerned - not sure what your particular concern is but hope this helps..

hello mandy please dont worry they are there to help you so best be honest i can not see why your past history would stop wls, thats just my opinion someone will be along soon with better advice x x x take care sarah x x x

Hello. Sorry I can't give you any advice but just wanted to say your in the right place someone will come and give you advice soon! In the meantime try not to worry sure you will be ok.

To be honest I doubt that as a GP she really has an indepth knowledge of the subject. The pshycologist will go over your history with you, its more to see if you have issues with food that they can try to help with and if you have a realistic view of the surgery than about saying you can't have it as you are depressed. x

thanks guys mean so much to me your support. i will now dry my eyes.

Hi Mandy, i agree with ZNS above, GPS really dont know that much about the process really, thats why your PCT hs a specialist team to assess possible candidates, besides this you saw asomeone else at the ractic not your regular GP, this other person really doesn't have any say as its upto your GP not a locum orother GP at the surgery.

Depression is one of the well known conditions that go along with obesity, so dont worry about this, it could be that losing the weight will go part way to fixin this.

Hi Mandy, I agree with the others - depression really does go along with obesity- not helped by being one of the side effects of many anti-depressants.

hope it all goes well, just be honest and let them know that your expectations are realistic and you know that you will have to work with your WLS. x

Can you phone your hospital and speak to someone there? Im sure that would put your mind at ease x
yeah i thought about that. think that would be ok?

Yep me too Mandy - have been on anti-depressants for a number of years (although have been off them for about a month) and my op is on Sunday so don't worry i am sure everything will be fine for you too.

Sending hugs with fairy dust to stop you worrying x

thanks topsy. fairy dust is helping.xx

gonna ring tomorrow for peace of mind too. anyone any ideas who i need to speak too? xx

Mandy I bet the majority of the folk on her have been on anti depressants at some time or another (not saying everyone so don't anyone take offence) so don't worry over that. They have to do all these tests and psychic annalasis's to make sure we all know what we are going into. They're not done to make it worse and cancel ops, they're on our side and want to help us understand everything thats happening. Good luck and I'm sure once you've been you'll feel much better about everything. As for asking for info on your history, they've most likely got it anyway because it will have all been presented when your gp applied for funding.
