Water works

Does anyone know if suffering from regular water work infections will be detrimental to having surgery??....Linda x

Hi Linda,

To be honest I'm not sure! I know that in surgeries such as joint replacements you should not have a UTI, as the infection can spread to the joint that has been operated on! I assume the same can happen with other surgeries?? I suggest that you have your urine checked well before your op if you are prone to them, so you can get on antibiotics and clear the infection in time if you have a UTI. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can help! Ask your doc....he or she will know! lol

Thanks Kel I have one now but thankfully will have time to get it sorted if I have the surgery, I get them regularly 7 since last November!....Linda x

Hi

Sorry to hijack your thread but whilst on the subject of waterworks, has anyone had any problems post-op?

I've recently started with bladder problems, when I need to go I HAVE to go and sometimes it's touch and go as to whether I'll make it to the loo (sorry if a bit graphic!!) Never had any problems pre-op so started to think could it be anything to do with the catheter? My boyfriend had a serious accident a few years back and was in a coma for a while (with catheter) since his accident he's suffered from bladder problems also so just wondering whether the catheter can actually weaken your bladder?

Does anyone else have any problems?

Thanks guys x

Hi cat, the catheter is not supposed to cause any long term problems. I have a weak bladder due to my kidney problems and having had 2 kids. Not noticed any significant changes since the op x

could it be down to yr weight loss and changes in muscle structure. or just that you are producing more urine and getting caught short because of that its how yr body rids itself of the excess fat

Linda I was on IV antibiotics for a couple of days post op, to ward off infection, so if you do have even a mild water infection it shouldn't spread.

Thanks Shell I was just concerned that they may say my kidneys are not up to it or something, D day is getting near and I just want to make sure nothing jumps out on me when I least expect it....Linda x

i had a water infection just b4 my 2nd band op, they said they may stop the op, but in the end didn't which was a relief. since the op ive had 1 more water infection which im now on pills for, so strange it is ive never suffered b4 from this problem. it should be ok if treated b4 an op if u reconise the symptoms get it treated asap b4 an op.
