Aww bless you, I think alot refer too much to bypass and the quicker weight loss. They don't know the difference and most are too stuborn to ask questions. If they did it would be more polite than looking you up and down with the smug look on their faces.

What do mean LIz?

Do you mean that their expectations are that you should be much much slimmer?

If this is the case, you should ignore their ignorance. You know the tough journey you have had and you also know that if you did anything more drastic it would endanger your health.

People can infuriate us but apart from the few real rotten apples, I do believe most people do not mean to be malicious.

Please God I'm right...lol

To me you look great...

gaynor i think its maybe because these ppl know what ive had thro my honesty and try to compare me to people in the media and there progress. im not a star like fern britton with a famous chef on hand to make me a tasty bowl of slop when i click me fingers, some of us aint that lucky and we get judged from media hype, it pis*es me right off !

I know what you mean Liz but surely if they know you and how honest you've been then they should know you'd answer any questions they ask. Some folk are just ignorant and think they know it all. They obviously don't know about all the hard work you've put into this do they??

everyone around me knows what ive had done, im not ashamed to say ive had wls to any one, its just after all this time u can see em looking u up n down when they think ya not looking, i suppose its just human nature to do it after all i told everyone so its part of the process.

ahh im not bothered if they talking about me they leaving sum other poor bugga alone lol

Evening all

thats why i am glad i havent told anyone in my family or anyone i know (cept a handfull of friends) who have either been through the same or going through it and have been supportive...................i am not even sure i am going to tell anyone else yet atm............fear of judgement i guess.....i know what liz means though.....because if she had lost all her weight without a little help people would not criticize.......or think untowards..........and so flaming wot she had a little help and has done bloody marvellous, same as other people on here..........i think its gr8........ignore those ignorant tw*ts liz...........as tina turner would say ****** your simply the best**********

all the best - mejulie xx

lol julie, im passed givin a sh*t, well i do really as i wouldnt of started this thread, has anyone else had this judgement thats exposed to all ?

Hi Liz...simple answer is yes.

I think the people who know nothing of what a gastric band does other than what they have heard from media cases like Fern Britton, have no idea what it really is like for the "common people". We do not have an army of people working for us, to make us look our best at all times.

Someone like Fern can afford, personal fitness trainers, expensive gym membership, stylists, nutrionists, chefs etc. and dang we'd all look a million dollars if we had that.

But the reality of the gastric band is that yes, compared to the fast start of weight loss that most bypass patients have, our journies are slower in general.

But other people are unaware of this...I have told everyone this anout the band, that in the most common likelihood, for me to get anywhere near goal, it will take 2 years. A bypass patient it's usually within a year.

I get it from people who I haven't spoken in detail about the way this tool works, they expect me to be shedding the weight and be slim in the blink of an eye.

people

hi liz i think i know what you mean although i have not told many people.the truth of it is that i am constantly surprized by the attitude and ignorance of people when it comes to weight issues ,some are blatantly rude some just cannot help themselves without even realising it.for example i have a friend who has never mentioned my weight but since i told her of my surgury everytime i see her she brings up weight in conversation and pats her washboard stomach on her size six frame and says eee iam so fat,...people are weird;

'Cos they have eff all better going on in their lives and are prolly waiting for you to make a massive bloop so they can say 'Nyeh nyeh, n nyeh nyeh'

Eff them and the horses they rode in on.

My family and very close friends know what i am having done and why and they are all very supportive but i have one good friend who is OBSSESSED with weight loss (she is big herself). She watches all these TV programmes has tried EVERY diet many times over but the top and bottom of it she doesn't have any willpower. She will eat her diet food in front of work colleagues and then go out of site to eat chocolate etc. I did mention to her at the very beginning when my GP said this was my last option as we had exhausted every other avenue and she immediately said no that's not for you - you won't be having that done!!!! If she knew i was having it she would plague my life by constantly watching me (waiting for me to fail) so she could say she had been right all along and to be honest i don't need that. So to keep our friendship normal she will never know what i am going to do. Some people are genuinely interested and will support you along the way and other people are so narrow minded they just need putting on an island and left to drift off somewhere else lol So Liz i know exactly what you mean but you are the bigger loser because you look absolutely fabulous and they are losers because they are small minded negative people!!!!!

Yea I agree, people are so samll minded and don't understand the difficulties of having a band, they just think its a cheats way out. That is exactly why I haven't told anyone except the friend who drove me home from hospital.

I have always been open about my Wls surgery and i have recieved the same treatment every where i go i see them looking me up and down the worse place is the school playground by all the mums or asking me every day how much have you lost now ?? it is starting to drive me insane there is one lady who comes up almost everyday to ask me how much i have lost the other day she said to me i think you need a better bra now you are loosing weight lol i wouldnt mind but i only have a b cup and lost alot of that already xx

Sadly there are a lot of judgemental people out there. They know little to nothing about WLS, apart from it helps you to lose weight. If it is not coming off at the rate of lightening then they look at you like you are doing something wrong.

That is one the reasons I'm telling no one apart from mother, brother and daughter.

Only a few people knew about my surgery - I feel that people are so judgemental that I'd rather they didn't know. That said, I told one of my work colleagues today (the time was right and it just came out!) She did the look me up and down bit expecting me to have instantly shrunk (and then looked at me in disappointment that I hadn't!). She also told me that a few people had wondered/guessed when I was off work. I know it's silly but I actually feel a bit hurt that they did this.

I've found that the comment that annoys me the most is the 'now don't go putting it all back on again will you?' as if I'm a) incapable of maintaining my loss and b) stupid and don't know how to. Oh and that old gem 'don't go losing any more, or you'll look ill!' (roughly translates to don't go losing any more, or you'll make me feel fat). No i won't look ill thank you, I have a healthy BMI and look neither gaunt nor sickly.

Oh and noone knows what a bypass is. I've had a gastric bypass I say, oh a band they say, like Fern. No, I say, a bypass, it's completely different. To a glazed over face blatently thinking about Britton. Its even on the computer at my GP that I've had a lap-band lol, even though I've pointed out the error repeatedly.

'So now you're pregnant, will you be getting your band loosened, cos they can do that can't they?'. Sooooo many times.

Know what LIz and Shell I think some of the people you refer to are just pig sick that you have managed to lose so much weight, and shell you are right, dont lose any more love else you'll be ill, does translate to flippin heck she looks better than me.
The fact they may refer to Fern etc is just to make it sound like it is this years big fad way to diet............NOT and you all know that.
Also I was reading last week that Fern is sufferring from extreme fatique and is struggling to fulfill her contractural obligations with GMTV and her other shows and having lots of tears etc., and just wants to leave her job, but has to keep going till July.
She says she is exhausted and her pictures show that too.
So even the celebs struggle in spite of their ability to be able to afford trainers etc.
At the end of the day it is still hard, and you(Liz, Shell) and everyone else have done it the hard way no pampering no trainers no ready made meals, just raw determination, and a will to do the best you can for you, so stuff everyone else, you are being true to yourselves and I take my hat off to you all.
I just hope I can do you myself as proud when my time comes

This ends today sermon
