How do you keep it a secret from your employers though?

If I get the operation I don't want my colleagues or my employers to know...Unfortunately I can't take my holidays at short notice.

you tell them you have been called in at short notice for a gynae op for womens probs that you would rather not discuss with them, most providors they will ajust the sick note accordingly for this reason.

Really?...The doc will adapt that certificate to hide the truth?...I hope so.

I guess 'Bariatric Surgery' on the certificate doesn't look like an elective op.

yep stomach surgery covers numorous ops, thats all that needs to be put on then u choose what u tell your employer in what type of op, ive known a few pass it off as gynae probs, check with your providor 1st to see if they will just put the basics down on the sick note and explain your reasons for this most providors are understanding and put the minimal detail down on request.

afterall patient confidentiality is there for a reason.

When i was discharged from the hospital my sicknote said abdominal surgery, and then when i saw my gp I asked her to put Post operative Surgery. Work didnt say a think it might be worth checking with your HR without giving them your name to see how it stands with their policies.

Some of the things we have to go through is rubbish dont you think?

Patient confidentiality is uppermost and your GP need only put -post-operative recovery' or the like. Unless you have a notifiable disease, there is no reason for your employer to know what procedure you have had.
