hi all, just updating my present situation. i have received a letter stating that i will have to go for a sleep study. does anyone know anything about them? will the outcome affect whether i have the bypass? xx

Hi

I have to go for one of these i asked my nurse what effect it would have over the surgery she said its precautionary really to check if you have got sleep apnoa, If you do then appropriate measures can be taken pre and post surgery for it.

Hi I have sleep apneoa and I think that is part of the reason I got funding. They just need to know for when you have the op. I was told I would wake up with my cpap machine on. Hope this helps.

You are not the first one to have this done so don't worry! It is purely for your benefit and wellbeing that this is been done....

Good luck with your journey, be sure to let us know how it goes on xxx

I have a cpap machine and I had to make sure that I took it in when I had the operation, it had no bearing whatsoever on my actual operation. But as someone has already mentioned sleep apneoa is another string to the funding request! By the way a month down the line and I no longer use the machine!

thanks so much for all the advice with regards to this matter. i have suffered from sleep apnea since i was a young un and used to sleep in the same bed as my mum. it is my mum that said i have breathing lapses in my sleep and more recently my new boyfriend has also made me aware of this fact, but up to now i did not know what exactly it was. many thanks to lesley, julie, sharron and malazak xx

It's good you are addressing it vixx. I never realised how serious an illness this actually was until my OH got diagnosed with it...

Anyone who thinks they may have it should get it checked out xx

Hi there Vixxx just wanted to add that I have been using a CPAP machine now for nearly a month, I have been told that I need to be on it at least 3 months before I can be re-referred back to the Bariatric team:sigh:

Hi Vixxx, I was told in November that I would probably have to have this 'sleep test' but have not heard anything yet. As my op is due at the end of the summer, not sure whether to mention it or not? What do you think? - Paul x

So many of us have to have a sleep study. I think at my hospital they make everyone have one now. If they diagnose sleep apneoa you'll probably have to have a few months treatment on a cpap machine before they'll operate. Don't panic...definitely doesn't mean you can't have the op :)
