WLSG here to stay!

Hi, I am seriously considering the bypass proceedure - and am at a loss of what cosmetic surgery company to go with.

They all look very professional - am err-ing towards The Hospital Group as they do the proceedure in my county (Kent) - I was contemplating the sleeve and going abroard with cosmetic bliss, but they don't offer the full bypass.... any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks

p.s - I am loving the success stories, very encouraging x

Personnaly I would look for a company that focuses on weight loss only. THe all round cosmetic companies (IMO) are not the best experts and very many people have had bad aftercare with them (The hospital group do not have a good rep on here).

I went with healthier Weight.

Why? Because this company is all about weight loss. They do many other things as well as surgery to help with weight loss for everyone. They truly understand the needs and struggles of obese people. I have the gastric band on 30th April and have had fantastic aftercare as well as 4 fills.

I would recommend them any day. But I also strongly advise that you research all the alternative companies. Most expensive is not always best and cheapest will not guarantee a good experience. One company however you should stay clear of is WLSG - they are offering unlimited aftercare and fills etc. Which is great. However - they is a very strong possibility that they wont be here this time next year. Which explains why they have just upped their aftercare offering to attract patients.

Its a minefield isn't it - thanks for the advice, I will have to do some more research I think! ;-)

I would have to strongly disagree with this comment Sue. I went with WLSG as did many other people on here. We are all more than happy with them as a provider and I would not hesitate recommending them. For the band they are offering 3 years aftercare and unlimited fills and de fills, not lifetime. There are also people who did not have their surgery with them but use them for aftercare, after there package has run out. They offer an excellent service.

Where does the idea that they wont be around this time next year come from?

To answer Lola's question, the best advice I can give is to research, research and more research. Its your decision who to go with though. Good luck x

I couldn't be more pleased with the service that Healthier Weight has given me and apparently their aftercare is superb as well.

In Sue's defence Lola wants a bypass, not a band or sleeve, whilst the WLSG offer both procedures it would be unfair to summise that they are better or worse than healthier wieght !

Lola like Sue i had my op through healthier Weight, and like yourself i live in Kent, in my opinion they use the best surgeons and operative team, in the best facilitiated private hospitals in the country, i have and continue to have my consultations in London and travelled up to Manchester for my operation knowing that i was to be operated on by one of the best bariatric surgeons in the world !
Healthier Weight are not the cheapest, but as Sue quiet rightly pointed out they are specialist in obesity and weight lose surgery.

At the end of the day its your money and your choice where and with whom to go with, be open minded, go meet the consultant and listen and ask the questions.

In my defence I did not say they were better or worse, I was disagreeing with sue's comment that WLSG will probably not be around next year! Also what they offer aftercare wise which she quoted incorrectly.

I am well aware Lola wants a bypass! and as i said in my subsequent post the best advice i would give is to research.

Lola, please don't go with THG as the aftercare is non existent and you have to chase them for everything :sigh:

I went with them for my band and although they use good surgeons, I dread to think what would have happened if I'd chosen a bypass with them :( infact I've not heard of anyone that has had a bypass with them.

If I'd not had the support of everyone on Minis and even my own GP surgery, I'm not sure how I'd have got through the last few months....good aftercare and support is as vital as the surgery itself and I'm afraid you won't get it with that company....sorry to be negative :sigh:

I had a band with WLSG and found them to be great, and would highly recommend them. I m sure they will be here in the next few years as they are very busy with new clients. I would give them a call Lola and just have a chat and decide for yourself. Good luck

Whilst i would agree with you that anyone considering the private route should do there own research, she does have the added advantage of actually being able to talk with post bypass paitents who have used particular companies, so our advice should be used as part of that research, rather than having to rely on the sale team who will no doubt sell there product !
I have no experience of WLSG, though when i did my research into WLS i ruled them out straight away, though i had my own reasons for doing so.

Aftercare long term for a bypass paitent is just as important as a band paitent, though you can decide to pay and go elsewhere for band fills post op or longerterm, with a bypass its not so easy, i wonder how many NHS surgeons would want to deal with a private post operative bypass issue ?

I only enquired with the Hosptial Group and they hounded me! So many phone calls that I just ignored the phone when I saw the number show.

It is a minefield but as mentioned already research them, you will always find positive and negatives but at least you know them in advance.

I think WLSG are good, and I am REALLY surprised to hear such negative comments about them. I am happy with the overall care and treatment, including aftercare.

I have certainly not heard anything about them not being around next year and would be very interested to know where that rumour has come from!

And finally... I did have a post operative bypass issue, that the NHS and an NHS bariatric surgeon dealt with straight away and without question (and I only went to the NHS as I was too ill to travel 2 hours to my surgeon).

Thank you all so much - this site is a god send - I am so glad you're all here to give your advice xx:):eek::)

H Lola, I was nhs banded so don't really know about the private sectors in this but I have read many people on here complaining about THG so be very wary of this company. Good luck and I hope you find the best company to do your opxx

Lola
I've got my first consultation with WLSG tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes.

What I do know is that a Gastric Bypass costs £8995.00 with them and seeing as your in Kent it would be handy because they carryout the procedure at The Chelsfield Park Hospital in Orpington. The surgeon there is called Mr El-Hasani.

Google it and have a good look.

I've had some feedback on the surgeon, so far i can work out that he's very good at what he does, he knows what he's talking about and people feel very safe in his hands, however he has not got a very good bedside manner.

Hope this helps a little

x

Hi i went with The hospital group but did not pay for aftercare. however after complaining about the attitude from a member of staff at obesity healthcare (a sister group who provide aftercare) i have recieved 3 free fills. Everybodys experience is always different, from my point of view i can not fault THG. Do your reasearch and try to form a balanced view of all the companies and you will not go wrong x

Hi LOla,
I went privatley with www.healthierweight.co.uk
I found them to be very good and can highly reccomend them.
My surgeon is the very experienced and very well known Mr Ammori.
As someone else pointed out they are specialist in obesity and weight lose surgery.
Wishing you all the very best on your journey!

They are being sued for a number of reasons - NONE TO DO WITH THEIR PATIENTS or the SURGERY. I have not said they do not offer a good service. They do, and everyone has been happy with what they do. I only recommend to stay clear as they may very well go under due to above. And to pay out the money then not get aftercare after next year is not worth the risk IMO.

hi sue i also am with wlsg who r in my opinion second too none where and from who did you hear they are being sued and probably wont b around next year from!!!!!! if you know this for sure then obviously there are alot of us who would be interested in finding out xxheather
